BRENDAN MORIARTY

My father Lauri MacDermott is very sorry to hear of Brendan’s passing and asks that I send on his sincere condolences to Brendan’s family and friends on his passing.

As a kid, I remember Brendan dropping in to our house in Bruff in the 1970s. My father would always say The Swans pub outside Bruff was the most enjoyable place he played music - it had it all… great characters, great music, story-telling, great setting and great craic - ‘Brendan’ was the musician I’d most hear him mention whenever ‘The Swans’ was being talked about. In relatively recent years, I brought my father back to The Swans for musical reunions and got to meet and know Brendan. I saw for myself what a fabulous, singer and musician he was and most unassuming with his abundant talent - a true treasure. Sincere condolences

Very saddened to hear of the passing of Brendan. Brendan was a regular visitor to Kilteely, Co Limerick. He was a great help around the farm and had a particular interest in gardening. He travelled all of east Limerick with our Dad Vincent playing music sessions. He was a regular in Breen’s bar in Kilteely where he entertained his many friends with his wonderful talents. He was part of the reunion tour to London in the early 80’s. He will be sadly missed by all our community.

What a pure gent.I remember many a good music session he played with my dad Mike Farrell in the late 70s early 80s in Keatings Bar in Bruff Co Limerick.And after that when he came back up to visit Limerick after moving back to Kerry in Hogans in Meanus.My dad passed away in 1982 and Brendan actually played a tune on his accordian at the graveside on the day of the funeral....

It is with great sadness on the passing of brendan. He was a great friend of the family. Brendan was a tallented musician. He played accordian mouth organ tin whistle and had a fantastic singing voice. He sang and played at the fleadh and had many a brillant night of song and music with brendan. Lots of very fond memories of Brendan when I was growing up in Bruff. I still remember him playing the accordian in Keatings bar, some of the poetry he thought me and the odd heated debate over which potatoes to plant. Rest in peace Brendan, the places you lived in are less for your depature and more for the memories you left behind.
