Brendan was a great friend to me over the last 40 years. He was always an inspiration, his zest for life and sheer determination always driving him forward, overcoming all obstacles to live life on his own terms.
I have many happy memories of him. He will be greatly missed by myself and his many friends.

My heartfelt condolences to you Maureen and to your extended family and friends on the death of your treasured brother Brendan who died suddenly and much too young. May He Rest In Peace.
Brendan was a phenomenon right through his life.. when he was a little London boy he and family spent many happy summer holidays with us.. the Fitzsimons, Cavan side of family (his late mother, Eileen, was my father Richard's sister). Later as an adult he sustained gruesome injuries in two serious motor bike accidents. After waiting anxiously we were all overjoyed when he gradually recovered and was able to visit again and travel widely despite that ongoing setback. Then he moved to Rhonda, Spain and continued to travel despite the difficulties and he spent his winters in warmer Asia, which helped nourish his mended bones. He refused to be daunted and he designed and adapted equipment creatively to help him live as well as possible.
Maureen, you were a constant help to Brendan and even though you lived separate independent lives you always shared great companionship, understood each other and enjoyed “your” lively brotherly/sisterly humour.
So, Maureen I wish you the strength to cope with your sad loss as you have had to do for your parents, Eileen and Michael, and on the premature death of your lovely sister Noreen too.
With love from your fond cousin Eileen.

We are sad to learn of the death of dear Brendan. We had hoped to visit him in Spain but it was not to be. Brendan rebuilt his life after the serious motor accident and continued to be a kind and gentle person. Our thoughts are with his sister Maureen who has had so many family sorrows to bear.

It has been very sad to learn about Brendan's untimely death. He was such a spirited and convivial character to meet. He overcame and lived with the physical disabilities of a traumatic road accident many years ago with tremendous courage and perseverance. Sincere condolences to his loving sister Maureen and all his relatives and close friends in Ireland and beyond. May he rest in peace.
