I wish to convey my deepest sympathy to the Thompson family on the passing of my beloved childhood and life-long friend Brendan. Even though we were separated by thousands of miles and years of no contact with each other, when we did meet over the years, it was just as if we were back together in the 1940s and 1950s again with no interventions. During a couple of my visits to Ireland, we played tennis. Brendan always won, but the enjoyment of being their and socializing with my friend was an experience I cherished. The last time I met with Brendan was for a lunch together with his wife and my sister Kathleen Hyland at a restaurant in Portarlington about four years ago. It was a very pleasant and happy occasions. I have many tales of the times we spent together as young Monasterevan boys and will always cherish those memories. May Brendan's soul RIP.
