Brian Bermingham

To Elma, and all the Bermingham family, I'm so sorry for the sudden and tragic loss of Brian. Brian was a character and I always enjoyed meeting and spending time with Brian, listening to his opinions, ideas and just his love of life. Brian was always patient and supportive when I sat on Cork City Council with him and he was a great Ward colleague. Also thinking of Brian's parents at this time as well. Brian has made an indelible mark on the history of Cork City. May he Rest in Peace.

Since he first accompanied the Churchfield Square Action Group I’n the late 70ies to present their case in City Hall, he showed a real commitment to people finding their own voice and their own empowerment. In the many roles he assumed during his long career of public service, he supported the local community work of the Poverty Project and the Adult Literacy approach of The Write Together Programme in the Northside of the city. His open and positive approach encouraged new and creative thinking, making him a supportive advocate in the ‘corridors of power’. May his gentle soul rest in peace...I líonta Dé go gcastar sin.

Very Shocked & Saddened to learn of the unexpected Passing of Brian. I met him some weeks ago in Cork and we had a great chat. He was a thorough Gentleman and an outstanding City Councillor. He was a unique Lord Mayor of Cork City and was the only Mayor to invite all the 9 Mayors of the County Towns to the City Hall for an Official Reception, Presentation and Lunch.He wanted to acknowledge the important role that the Town Councils played in our Democracy. He marked that auspicious occasion with a suitable gift befitting a historic day. I was fortunate to be the Mayor representing Kinsale.
