My deepest sympathy, Phyllis and family on the death of your beloved husband and Dad, Brian! You often told me of his illness when you came to cook for the Brothers in Glasthule. You carried his suffering, too, Phyllis. You did all you could for him in the circumstances, during his illness. Brian is at peace at last, his suffering is no more. May he rest in perfect peace!
Deepest sympathies to Phyllis, Fergal, Noreen, Sean and all the grandkids.
We were really sorry to miss the funeral as we are in Perth visiting our own grandchild.
But, at least, thanks to rip.ie, we saw it all on screen. Can we say that you did him proud. Your love for him and his love for you all came shining through. It was lovely that you were able to celebrate a wonderful life, it was hard to hold back the tears with Fergal's superb eulogy. I had quite a few enjoyable chats with Brian at the front gate, and they usually came round to rugby at some stage. He was an absolute gentleman. He will really be missed on Adelaide Road.

We never knew your dad, Noreen… but reading the condolences it is clear we obviously missed out. We both extend our sincere sympathy to you and the entire family.

I first met Brian in 1967 in the "Zambia's First Multiracial Bar" run by Mr Noyi in Mongu.
Brian was one of the most sociable of men. At the time when Zambia was feeling its way towards racial harmony after years of racial segregation, Brian was blind to all differences of colour, race and religion.
He was a great conversationalist with topics covering sport, politics, literature re and, sometimes, religion.
He was popular among his students and fellow teachers. He had various nicknames: "MATINDA" a Zambian song which always started him dancing at parties and in the bars.
"Brain Brandy" by Zambians who were tongue-tied by his real name.
"Uncle Airport" by our daughters when they saw using his bald head as a landing strip.
Brian contributed much to the new Zambia's drive for education at both secondary school and teacher training level.
He was a good man in Africa - honest, friendly and entertaining.
