So sorry to hear of the passing of Mr Cannon. I was fortunate to have him for English and History in ‘82/83. In Mercy College, Coolock. He inspired all of us; he challenged us to discuss whatever we were learning. Today, as a teacher myself, I tell my class about the lovely teacher I had who instilled a love of learning in me, could tell you where words originated from, especially Latin ones, and was passionate about teaching. He certainly left his mark
on all of us. May he rest in peace and may his family find some comfort through all the lovely messages that have been left.

I had the pleasure & privilege of starting my teaching career under Brian’s mentorship.
He was a very astute, kind & inspiring leader. Despite the size of the school, he always knew what was going on.
But the thing that stands out in my mind about Brian is his fairness & approachability.
Thank you Brian.

So sad to lose such a true leader in education. He has left a great legacy to the students and families of this community. He will always be fondly remembered.
I offer my deepest condolences to The Cannon family. Over many years we worked closely as neighbouring Principals and shared mutual respect. In latter years we met for a game of Golf but more frequently for Tea and Scones in the Grand Hotel. It was a privilege to share time with Brian, particularly in his last few years. May he now enjoy his Heavenly Home in the company of his beloved daughter. RIP

There is little I can add to the tributes that have already been paid to Brian. I identify with so many of them but at the same time I’ve learned that he was an even more special person than I had realised. Perhaps that’s because he was never someone who blew his own trumpet. His impact within the sphere of education was immense. I hope it will be of consolation to his family to realise how much he was appreciated and for the rest of us to realise how fortunate we were to have crossed paths with Brian and shared such a variety of experiences.
