I have many fond memories of Brian putting us through our paces on training nights in Edenderry RFC during the '70's. He had wonderful knowledge of the game and was an excellent coach.

Isobel & family, so very sorry to hear of Brian’s passing. He was a great coach to so many of us in Rathmines ...... where we tested his patience on more than one occasion no doubt! I really enjoyed his company and appreciated his insight on rugby, rugby players, rugby tactics and rugby referees! Great guy to spend time with in the Rugby Club too. Left an indelible mark on our rugby lives. May he rest in peace.
My sincere condolences to Valerie and family on the sad passing of her brother Brian a St. Mary's stalwart of both school and rugby club.
May he rest well
"To live in the hearts of those we leave behind is not to die" by poet Thomas Campbell.
To Brian & family please accept my deepest condolences on the death of your dear father and grandfather Brian. May it help to know that others are thinking of you at this sad time.
Love never dies.

As a lover of all sports, though from a Gaelic Football and hurling family, and a few years behind him in age, I remember Brian well from his days sending torpedoes from the base of scrums and rucks, initially for his school and later for his club, astutely marshalling the eight in front of him, and bravely dealing with the marauding eight breaking through on him.

I don’t recall ever speaking with Brian - I can’t remember if he lined out alongside the Deerings for Braemor Road against Oakdown Road, in casual summer soccer games - but such was his evident commitment to the cause of the White Star, that I admired him from afar. Perhaps the closest I ever got to Brian was with the fairer sex Deerings at rugby club dances!
Sincere condolences to Valerie and and extended Cotter family on the passing of your brother.
Rest In Peace

Brian Cotter was a great Mary’s man in every sense. As captain of the historic first SCT-winning team in 1961, coach of the victorious 1994 squad, and President of the PPU in 1987–1988, he gave so much of himself to the College and the wider Mary’s community.
