Very sad to hear of Brian’s passing. He was kind to the core and a total gent. My sincere condolences to his husband James and all his family and friends.

We met James in the ICU family room in CUH whilst going through the most unimaginable pain a family could go through.

I was in Brian’s class in college - in International Commerce and German and while I didn’t get to know him very well he always struck me as a very nice and kind person. Words cannot express how sad I am for my lovely friend james, all Brian/James’ family and friends, at the unexpected and tragic loss of Brian. I only met Brian once, earlier this year. It was easy to see what a lovely person he was inside and out. I hope and pray that you all, and especially James, find the strength to navigate the pain of grief that arrived at your door and moved in, uninvited.

The earth shook. We were terrified to hear such awful news. Mu’ath and I fervently prayed it would change, Brian would rally, it was not to be. Over 30 years, I was blessed by this gallant knight. We crossed at parties, weddings, Christmases, New Year’s Eves, fabulous escapades : long smoky, boozy nights, Brian radiant at the centre. I loved him. I know that he loved me. Being with him increased us and was great honor, pleasure, joy. Such naughty irreverence, innocent outpourings, jokes, warmth, affection. Brian amazed; blazed, gorgeous, dapper, unintentional, sometimes fiery, so wonderfully earnest, loyal. Looking back, I was in awe. He was our Great Gatsby. His wedding : Now bleakest desolation. Jesus mind his beloved husband James, whom Brian adores and who made him so very happy. A man who completed him; his brave mum, his bereft siblings, countless friends who cherished him. We are robbed of great treasure: a fortunate Skib soil is fabulously enriched - diamond dust, platinum.. emeralds. A great blessing to have had him. We are greatly diminished. Everything irreparable.. changed. His sudden passing jars & reminds how fragile it all is, and yet everyone look.The tail of a comet; a great light trails the sky. I am utterly heartbroken at the passing of my dear friend Brian. I’ll never forget our first meeting in a German lecture hall in UCD when I not so secretly fancied him - who didn’t? And from then on we were partners in crime. In so many ways so different and yet so similar in others. We enjoyed so many adventures together from university life, our many nights out, sooo many holidays, the best year of our life in Aachen and many that will remain forever under wraps. He was just always there. Part of my family really. My graduation, family gatherings, and of course my Bridesman and me his best woman at our weddings. This just isn’t right. It wasn’t his time. To James his absolute love, his mum Marie, brothers, sisters in law and his wider family, I am so incredibly sorry for your loss. He is gone far too soon but know that we loved him dearly and will join you in missing him deeply. RIP Brian xx

We always loved his cheeky humour and wonderful sense of fun, especially at the annual Horse Show with Siobhán and Adrian. It was so lovely to see him happy with you, James, and to know he had found such joy.

I couldnt make it today but was blown away by the beautiful celebration of Brian’s life and I now feel I know so much more about the person he was outside of the office. While his style and fun personality were obvious, it’s abundantly clear that work was such a small fraction of a fantastically full life, cut so tragically short. Brian didn’t sweat the small stuff and while always being diligent and professional, work wasn’t the be all and end all. His story is a lesson to all of us: work to live…..and he certainly lived life to the max. I’m so delighted he found such joy and true love in the last few years, but sadly that makes James’ loss so much harder. Heaven definitely got a bit more glamorous today. Fly high Brian and look after your 3 families as they deal with this unimaginable loss
