My deepest sympathy to the McGuirk family on Brian's sudden passing. Brian was a true gentleman on and off the tennis court. I partnered Brian in the Mixed Doubles in 2005 in the Mountpleasant LTC Open. We won the match in a very close tie-break in the 3rd set! The match was interrupted when his 2 elderly aunts and uncle appeared at the side of the court! Someone got them a bench to sit on. With Brian's tennis brain on tactics and strategy we delighted the relations with our big win! Brian will be missed by all on the Irish Tennis Circuit.

Over the years we became very good friends and he helped me immensely during my role as captain in Charleville, him being a great former captain.
His wealth of tennis knowledge and library of stories were always brilliant.
There was never a moment in all these years when we didn’t stop and have a good chat about tennis together, sometimes fleeting, sometimes for hours on end. I, like most, had all the time in the world for Brian.
He was incredibly generous with his time, serving as club captain and secretary on the committee, to name but a few roles, and he was loved by all in Charleville LTC.
I’ll miss the chats, I’ll miss his relaxed vibe, I’ll miss his humour, I’ll miss his crazy tennis shorts and I’ll miss his friendship.

So sad to hear of Brian’s passing. He was the first person that I met when I wandered into Charleville and asked about joining. He embodied everything that is good about the club - friendly, kind and with a great love of tennis. Brian was always the person we looked to on the rare occasions that there was a dispute in a match. He would calmly go onto court, explain what the rule should be and resolve the issue.
