My deepest sympathies and love to Nuala and family at the sudden passing of Brian. I was lucky to know Brian through two avenues. First through his wife Nuala, a close friend for 50 years and as a work colleague in Enterprise Ireland. Everything that is being said about Brian is true. His great mind and achievements, his warmth and wit along with his unassuming manner. Together with Nuala they were a delight to spend time with. Again my deepest condolences to Nuala and family. RIP Brian.

We were so sorry to hear of Brian’s sudden passing. He was intelligent, thoughtful and a wonderful raconter. He will be very sadly missed by all. Our thoughts are especially with Nuala, Hugh, Breeda, Kevin, Conn and Meabh at this difficult time.

On behalf of the Dublin Scientific Club, I believe I speak for all in recording our dismay at the untimely loss of Brian. Brian's qualities were both his evident affable, reliable, organised and trustworthy obvious characteristics, but also the perhaps less obvious contribution to science and technology in Ireland. To quote one member of the club "As well as being a very good person he played a major role in Ireland's success in getting research funding under various EU schemes." It is our hope that happy memories will help to dispel the obvious loss Nuala and the family have suffered. If it is any consolation, we join you in missing him so much.

A man of great intellect matched with a sense of humour, empathy and immense positivity, all with an unforgettable smile. He leaves a great legacy having made significant contribution to the European Space Programme. He will be greatly Missed.

Brian and I worked together for many years through a variety of organisations, latterly Enterprise Ireland. He was a man of extraordinary intelligence who had the ability to reduce very complex concepts to a language which was, at once, crystal clear and persuasive. He led a team of people with deep knowledge of space and information technology and was energetic in his protection of their independence to do their job. Above all his achievements and intellect, I will remember Brian for his ready wit and easy manner. A super guy to work with and a great companion on travels.

A thorough gentleman, Brian will be missed, a great conversationalist, always entertaining, RIP Brian
