I want to express my sympathies to the O'Rourke family on Brian's passing,
I know from his time in GMIT he was a man who had many talents, and he used those talents to enhance the education of his students over the years. May he rest in peace.

My condolences on the passing of Brían. I was lucky to have been a student on the Heritage course at GMIT when he lectured there. His classes were always a highlight of the week, aside from instilling a passion for literature and music in his students he would often entertain us with stories from his own life. Speaking lovingly about his daughters. It was always a gift to the class when he would arrive a few minutes late and announce he has some special guest for the day, when he would bring you along to class, and let you sit at the back.

Brían was always welcoming, encouraging and friendly to us as students. I recall he stopped at a bus stop one morning and asked if I wanted a lift to college. He told me he had a few errands to run on the way, but as it was his class I was going to it would be hard to be late without him. I still enjoy reading his book An Island Heart.

I only knew him for a short time during which he left a lasting impression. My deepest sympathies to you all.

We had the pleasure of getting to know Brian and to listen to his witty and fun songs crafted by him and shared with us in the Riabhog club on a number of occasions.
Memories on meeting Brian as the very proud Dad as his very talented girls played in the Galway Saturday Market some Saturdays.
