I have only today, 6th March, learned of Brian's death. I remember him as a member of the Executive Committee of the Irish Bank Officials' Association. A good speaker Brian's contributions to debate were characterised by sincerity and clarity of presentation clearly motivated by a desire to achieve the best for his fellow bank officials. Outside of the EC meeting room he was the best of company and would entertain us with his stories. May Brian rest in peace.
A very special man, he fought a great battle over the years and will be sadly missed. Deepest sympathy to all the family

Deepest sympathy to the Sugrue and Foley families on the very sad passing of Brian. I worked with Brian in Foynes many years ago. I can recall his witty tales and card games with the occasional pint at Hanlon’s
after work. He was very good company and a nice guy. I am sure he will be missed by all who knew him. May his gentle soul rest in peace.

I was shocked and saddened to learn of the untimely passing of Brian. As the many condolences illustrate, Brian was a true gentleman, one of a kind, a unique character and a proud Kerryman.
He had a engaging smile, he was witty, humorous and had a fantastic ability to craft a story or a yarn, a natural raconteur, of course he was a nephew of the late Eamon Kelly (Actor and Seanchaí) so it was “in the breeding”. I often heard him do a very fine version of “Nancy Spain”, after a few refreshments!
I got to know Brian, when we shared a house together in Farranlea Park, in Cork with a few other AIB reprobates, the bones of fifty years ago, there are many fond memories from those times.
Subsequently he became a committed IBOA man, it was probably there he learned the politics of negotiation.
Brian was committed to his family, his community in Glenbeigh, club and county football, the county of Kerry and Fianna Fáil politics.
He fought a long hard battle with his rare form of cancer. Through his illness, he remined positive, good humoured and resilient regarding the “hand of cards he was dealt”.
My sincere condolences to Maureen, John, Eva, his extended family and many friends.
