Dear Dad,
Life is a journey and I'm glad you were part of mine, and me of yours.
I'm glad of the memories we made, the stories you told and values you held.
Your love of the mountains, sea and even our gardens will live on, and I am also glad of that.
Your determination and devotion to whatever you were doing will stay with me and inspire me forever.
I am not sure what happens next, but you will always be with me, I love you unconditionaly and I am glad and proud to say I am your daughter.
Night night Dad xxx

My dad was one of the funniest people people I’ve ever met and taught me the value of humour, in all situations. Sometimes that was completely inappropriate humour, in the darkest of time but that is actually an amazing survival strategy as an adult. He was also a lot of fun and I’ve a vivid memory of him riding the rapids with us, in our trusty four man dinghy, at Bolton abbey and trying to body surf, the huge ocean waves on Lacanu beach. I’m confident neither one of those experiences would’ve past a health and safety, risk assessment and probably placed us at high risk of significant injury or death but I’m equally sure, that our dad, had no time, for such nonsense and the life lessons provided, made it worth the risk.
I remembered yesterday how my dad turned up for me in my hour of need at university and helped me with my assignments late into the night. We drank too much and he fell asleep on my floor after listening to my teenage angst and nonsense.
As a very young child, he introduced me to fell walking and the beauty of silence and that is still my go to safe place and for that I’m eternally grateful.
He let me sneak into his red hot baths with him on Sunday nights and stay there until my skin went pink.
Our dad may have had a successful career and I am proud of that but for me his biggest accomplishments lay elsewhere. I’m not sure he knew how I felt and he believed he could’ve been better but for me he was enough x I loved him
