In memory of Brian, my brother-in-law
So many happy visits with Brian and my sister, Jean, fill my memories – especially at this time of year. Their home always felt welcoming and ‘Christmassy’ and you could be assured that Brian would have something delicious ready for a meal.
I first met Brian when my lovely sister, Jean, and I went roller-skating together. We used to go every week and Brian worked there part-time. I’m not quite sure when it was that cupid’s arrow hit, but Jean must’ve felt like Cinderella having Brian fit her skates for her. She loved Brian, deeply.
When Jean retired due to ill health, they set about realising her dream of living in Ireland, as neighbour to our cousin, Freddie. Unfortunately, Jean passed away before they settled into their new cottage that she was so proud of; but Brian realised her dream and moved in with Martin and Kevin. My husband Gerald helped with the move and often spoke of how Brian managed to feed them so well, even though packing boxes were stacked everywhere! I have visited a few times and we have stayed in touch with Brian calling just about every week to ask after us all and send his love and good wishes.
At this time, the extended family in England send our heart-felt condolences to Martin and Kevin, and the wider circle of family and friends.
We all wish you well, Brian, on your final journey. Jean has a pair of roller-skates waiting for you…
