So sorry to hear that Brian passed away JP, he was great craic but most of all a gentleman. RIP
Hope everyone is having some relaxing time this morning, catching up on some much needed rest after such a stressful and difficult few days for us all. I’m so proud of how we came together and celebrated the life of our amazing Dad, he got the most appropriate send off that he richly deserved! As funerals go, that was the best I’ve ever witnessed, as Sara said to us in the car driving from the church when I told the girls how proud Poppy would be of them, she quickly corrected me and said no Dad not would be, he IS proud of us, he is right here with us!!
I thought the funeral was just beautiful. Everyone spoke and sang so well. The offertory procession and Nathan playing the guitar. Ye have such a close family and that shone out like a beacon yesterday.
But I really wanted to let ye know that I'm so grateful to be part of the swimming family brian created in crystal. It was so evident as all the past swimmers from over the decades waited at the church yesterday for Brian's arrival. Whether we swam in the 70s 80s or 90s everyone was giving a hug and catching up. One thing we were all saying was how much swimming had shaped us and the people we became. We all were so proud outside the church yesterday to be part of that swimming family. And that was down to your dad. He never forgot any of us and had the same interest in us as adults and what was going on in our lives as he did when we were swimming. I made some of my best friends in all areas of my life through the swimming link. Being a swimmer gave me such confidence in college and after and really did make me the person I am today. I've been teaching swimming over 30 years now and as you know all my own kids are swimming. The Crystal club etiquette your dad fostered in us is still our standard and what we expect of others swimming. Your dad was one of a kind and I'm so glad I knew him.
The only tshirt I still have from my childhood is my crystal swimming club tshirt. I'm still as proud of it today as I was then.
Keeping ye in my thoughts and prayers xx
It just struck me this morning the huge impact Poppy made to so many peoples lives.....to see yesterday people in their 30's, 40's & 50's who were his swimmers as children crying at his funeral. Poppy had probably no comprehension what an impact he had on those children as he was so busy with their swim times....when I think about it myself, I wasn't part of poppys swumming family as a child....yes he did give me and antonia swimming lessons as a child....as you all know I was a swimming disaster but did progress to shallow end lifeguard in newtown swimming pool. There I met kevin, Tony & Jimmy, P. Allen and others who were part of poppys swimming family.....as you know they are my best friends today.....but it was through Kevin & co I got to meet Deirdre which never would have happened without Poppy coaching Kevin & the lads....so from that i got to be with the love of my life and his 4 grandchildren.....so thank you poppy for teaching me enough in swimming to become that swimming pool shallow end life guard, for meeting Kev and co which enabled me to find Dee and have 4 grandchildren for you.....it was your swimming club allowed me to eventually find happiness in my life and I thank you for giving me the biggest present life could ever give....enjoy being Larrys coaching assistant once again ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Aw Mark not enough words. Thinking of you and all your family. We were so lucky that we were able to have him as a second Dad who played such an important part in so many of our most treasured childhood memories. From all the trips, poolside jokes and the pushing us to be our best. We couldnt have been luckier to have Brian in our lives. He was one in a million. Thinking of ye all and sending love and strength x
Dear Mark, and to all your brothers and sisters,
I’m deeply sorry for your loss. Losing someone who meant the world to us is never easy, and my heart aches for you during this difficult time.
Please know that our thoughts and love are with you and your entire family.

With all our love,
Ana, José, Antônio, and Dolly ♥️💐
“He was such a wonderful daddy , and you’ve been incredibly strong son. I’m so proud of you. I’ll love you both forever, with all my heart and soul.” 💙🦜
A man whose love, strength, and unwavering support shaped the lives of so many.
A loving husband to my Mam for 53 years, a father to six, and a grandfather to fourteen, he made family his life’s greatest joy and instilled that same belief in all of us.
This was so evident in his final days, as he was surrounded by intense love, care, and support while moving on to life’s next journey.
He loved us all so deeply and made sure each one of us felt valued and supported. His encouragement was constant, his pride unmistakable, and his presence our greatest comfort.
He had many interests like soccer, golf, music and a deep love for animals, especially dogs and birds. He found peace in nature: walking the beach, enjoying the breeze, and appreciating life’s quiet, simple beauty, which reflected his calm and thoughtful nature… at least most of the time, when he wasn’t telling or playing jokes on everyone!
His love of the water was undeniable. As an amazing swimming coach, he taught and inspired countless swimmers throughout his lifetime. In doing so, he became a father figure to many well beyond our own family, offering guidance, discipline, and kindness to generations.
Dad wasn’t just a father, he was a mentor, a coach, a friend, a Poppy, and affectionately known as “The Boss.” Simply put, he was the best.
His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the values he instilled, and the love he gave so freely.
He is dearly loved and will be missed more than words can ever express.
Condolences to all of Brian’s family and friends at this very sad time. RIP Brian 🕊️
