Brian Wogan

You were a great man for a welcoming home Brian. Céad míle fáilte personified. Must have been all those years working for Aer Lingus. We could barely get into the gaff without a slice of lasagne or a hot toddy appearing in our hands. Or most importantly a kind word and a real interest in how you’re doing. I’m grateful for how big hearted you always were with us and I’m just gonna miss you pal. Deepest condolences to you all Gareth, Jane and Paula, he was a heck of a guy.

We are so deeply sorry to hear about Brian’s passing. We absolutely loved your mum and dad. Pauline introduced us over 30 years ago and we’ve celebrated so many lovely times with them both over the years. Brian was a wonderful raconteur and they were the heart and soul of every party. He adored Pauline so much, as we all did! They were such a great double act and a wonderful couple. Brian and Pauline loved you all so much and were so proud of each one of you. We’re heartbroken to hear that he’s gone but hopefully they are together now. Sending you all love and hugs. May he rest in peace.

To Gareth, Paula and Jane, I was so sorry to learn of Brian’s passing. His personality was larger than life, he was such a warm, intelligent and hilarious character. I have never met a couple who showed up the way he and Pauline did. Always in great spirits and always so much fun. I have really fond memories of meeting Brian (mostly at the Baillie’s but sometimes at Dublin airport) over the years. His funeral service was really lovely, you all did him proud. May his warmth, love and your memories get you through the difficult times ahead. Sending love xx

Deepest condolences to Brian’s family and friends on his passing. I remember him with great affection from my time in Aer Lingus when I would get calls from that inimitable voice at any hour of the day or night with the latest news update from Ops Control. It was always a pleasure to hear from Brian and from the many messages here it is clear I am not the only one with fond memories.

I was very saddened to hear of Brian’s passing. I was looking after a few airports in Europe and when “things went a little bit wrong😉” , I would call Brian and it would be sorted in a calm, friendly, professional manner. He was definitely one of life’s gentleman (a rare breed) .

Our Sincere Sympathy to Jane, Paula, Gareth, and all of the extended family on the death of Brian. He was, like all of his colleagues in Ground Ops, excellent at his job but he brought a bit of sparkle with him. He loved a good story or joke and he really enjoyed a laugh. We sometimes met him and his lovely Pauline (Fred) like two turtle doves going for dinner in Clontarf. He loved his family and cherished his friends. It was a pleasure and privilege to work alongside him. We wish you strength in these difficult days.

I started my career in Cabin Service Bonded stores with Brian ( we were in the same school ) - as has already been well documented - he was an absolute gentleman , a pleasure to work with subsequently in Ops Control - very much in each others ear.
We only earned our money when things went wrong - and that is where Brian would shine and get the best out of all of us in solving issues.
God rest him - a pleasure to have known him.

I was fortunate enough to work in Aer Lingus as cockpit crew and always found Brian to be wonderful at sorting out operational problems while bringing his great sense of humour and ready smile to all situations. My deepest sympathies to all the Wogan family on the sudden and tragic loss of Brian. I will always treasure working with him in Ops Control. He brightened up any day or night I shared duty with him. His storytelling and knowledge were legendary. Also the golf outings we shared. The after golf sing song in the Hotel in Shannon when he sang a totally improvised “Ops Control Blues” to my late brother Joe’s 12 bar blues backing on guitar will stay in my memory forever. May Brian Rest In Peace in the company of his beloved Pauline.

Audrey and myself were shocked to hear of the sudden passing of Brian.
ANOTHER LEGEND HAS DIED.
This is true eventhough we in operations were priviliged to work with many legends over the years and Brian was one of the shinning lights.
How do you sum up somebody like Brian.
Gentleman , Raconteur , Highly Intelligent with knowledge of not just Aviation but copious amounts of General knowledge and Sports.
Brian gave respect and showed equality to everyone thay he came into contact with from the CEO ,Chief Pilot etc down to the lowest of rank amonst the staff.
When the ops staff were rostered for a weekend of night duties . This could be a chore for some , away from their families and friends who were enjoying the weekend.
This would all change dramatically when they found Brian Wogan was the ops controller on duty.
He would regale them all ,with stories after story But if a crisis happened , he would walk them all through it.
Crisis what Crisis ?
Audrey my wife reminded me that the ops office didn't settle into their night duties until " Fred " called Brian to wish him a good night. "Fred " was what he called Pauline ,his beloved wife.
She probably has contacted him from heaven to say she is awaiting him.
Gareth , Jane , Paula and all of the family we send our condolences.
You had a lovely Mam and Dad and yes your father was a legend.

Very sad news. When Brian answered the phone in Ops you just knew everything was under control. A great mentor and a man full of wisdom who also knew how to have fun. He embodied everything that an Aer Lingus person should be. May he rest in peace and thoughts with all the family.
