My deepest sympathy to the Manion family on the passing of your mother Brid .I was so sad to hear of Mrs Brid Mannions passing .I have spoke about her so many times over the years to my now adult children about how absolutley brilliant she was at being our choir conductor in St Paul’s Primary school .She managed to teach over 40 girls who probably never had one music lesson between them and bring us on to sing with such pride and perfection to enter and win competitions .I have a photo from a newspaper in 1980 with your mam and the choir having won the Dr O Reilly memorial cup .Panis Angelicus,English country garden ,White waves on the water ,Pipes of pan are some of the many pieces that your mam thought us from scratch and never once raised her voice just a look was enough have the discipline needed have every note sung to perfection .
We actually made a cassette ,recorded in the Holy Spirit church which much to my regret have misplaced over the years .would have loved my own children to hear all the wonderful songs that your Mam thought .I apologize for such a long condolence but your mam was something special .When children are young they don’t see a great teacher but when they look back over 40 years later they really appreciate the good ones .I at 56 sing in an Adult choir and still remember tips your mam gave all those years ago .

I had the pleasure of meeting Brid in later years in Craddockstown and even at 95 years she still had the the same twinkle in her eye . Rest in peace , mass will be offered .

Mo comhbhrón ó chroí le Fergal, Máire, Susan and Siobhán are bhás bhur mathar álainn. Buddy (her Clifden moniker) was a familiar presence in my childhood home. Her frequent visits to her hometown of Clifden always heralded holiday time for me. She loved to visit old friends and neighbours regaling about times past and catching up with all the latest happenings over cupáin tae go leor. On her way home Buddy would call in to my mother, always by the back door, and over cupán tae eile they would swap news and fill in any gaps in the stories. Alongside her musical prowess Buddy Kelly was a gifted storyteller. Over the years I enjoyed listening to her many tales of growing up in Clifden in the 30's to 50's and the many town characters that have since gone to their eternal rest. Buddy always maintained a deep connection to her beloved Connemara, a bond
she has passed to the next generation. She would be so proud of the beautiful farewell she received today from her family. What an enduring legacy of musical talent she has left behind with her children and grandchildren. She will be missed.
