My Mom's mother (Mary Kelly) was the daughter of James Kelly and Ellen Flynn. Our family (24 of us) visited Ireland two years ago (guided by Nuala Kelly.) One of the best moments of the trip was visiting Beela. She came out of her home and waved enthusiastically to all 24 of us as our tour bus drove way. A memory that I will always cherish. Condolences to Beela’s family; Paddy, Mary, Joan, son in law Patrick and to her grandsons John and Jason.

It was a privilege to have Beela as my next door neighbour. Beela was gentle, witty, kind and caring. She adored her son Paddy, her daughters Mary and Joan and her grandsons John and Jason. She loved my parents and my grandmother enjoyed many hours of laughter with Beela. She always made sure men were looked after and fed, as women could fend for themselves!! Having Paddy's dinner ready when he came from work was her priority and this kept her going. Even in recent times when she was no longer able to cook, she made sure Mary had the spuds on for Paddy. She loved to bake brown bread and kept baking for as long as she could. She made sure you had a cup of tea and biscuits and on her birthday we enjoyed a Baileys together. She enjoyed her chats with the postman, the coal man and the parish priest.

She adored animals and provided a home for hens, rabbits, cats, dogs, birds and even a lamb! I remember her spoon-feeding frail kittens trying to keep them alive and rescuing birds the cats had caught. No wonder stray cats and dogs kept turning up!

We celebrated her 100th birthday together, admiring her medals and letters from President Michael D Higgins that continued to arrive each year onwards. She was blessed to nearly make it to 108 and to be cared for at home by her family. I will treasure all the memories. Beela was one of a kind and will never be forgotten. RIP.

Beela is my mother's (Eileen Kelly Chabot) first cousin. Met her in 2013
while visting Ireland. It was an honor and a pleasure. What a lovely lady. Rest in peace and condolences to all who knew andl oved her

I have such fond memories of Beela from my childhood when we stayed with my Grandmother Bridget Clifford who was a great friend of Beela’s.
Beela’s arrival on her bike was always greeted with squeals of delight from myself and my siblings. She never came without tubs of HB ice cream and there was always fun and laughter when Beela was around .
She was truly lovely
