Sincere sympathy to Geraldine, David, Fiona, Ronan, Enda, Joanne, her grandchildren and the extended Beattie and Byrne families on the passing of Bridie.
I had the absolute privilege of getting to know Bridie first when I started teaching in St John’s NS in the early 1980’s. Words cannot express the support she and Eamon gave to me and to St Johns NS.
Back then there were no official caretakers but both Eamon and Bridie stepped in.
They were always on call when the heating didn’t work or rooms needed cleaning, or the school needed to be opened for meetings at night or on election days or cars were needed to bring teams to football, hurling and Camogie matches. They were part and parcel of every fabric of the school life. On a more personal level she collected Roisin every day at 2 o’clock and brought her to her house after school.
Indeed, on most evenings it was a battle to get Roisin to come home after her time with Bridie and Joanne. It was always a pleasure to visit Beattie’s house.
I worked with Bridie on the many various fundraisers for the building of the community centre and also with events for Dominic’s Camogie club and the community games.
I pray now that God will grant her eternal rest and give you all the strength to bear this great loss.
