Sincere condolences to you all. I remember your Mum very fondly. She was such a kind and gentle lady. Bridie used to visit my Mom in Warrington and Mom visit Bridie in Manchester. They were great friends. They would spend the 2 days together having great chats and loving each other's company. It is a beautiful memory as I lost my Mother in 2020. May her gentle and beautiful soul rest in peace.xxx

Sincere condolences to John , Angela, Eileen, Louise, & all the extended families on the sad passing of Bridie. I have very fond memories of Bridie. She was a lady with a heart of gold. May her gentle soul rest in peace.

My mother Bridie left home when she was 16 in March 1947. She went with her sister Rose to Manchester. Originally, they were to go nursing, but they ended up staying in Manchester and found work there. They worked hard and made a life for themselves in a land that wasn’t always friendly to the Irish and West Indian communities who were being encouraged to come to help rebuild a war-ravaged England.
She met and married my father, had a family, and settled there. But Ireland was always home, she loved to come home to visit her Mother, Father, Gerry and Angela, when she could and often did. She never left home in many ways, and she always mourned the loss of her homeland. She would play the music of home and love to speak with her sister Rose and brothers Paddy and Sonny who had also moved to Manchester.
She loved not only the music and song of her home, but also the music and song of the stories, the old stories, and new stories of who was where and what they were now doing. She loved to visit and meet her neighbours and to hear the song and music of their stories, to connect with her home. She would return to England with the song and music of those conversations in her ears and play them over and over in her mind. All those meetings and visits, how she loved them and treasured them. How she loved her neighbours and friends and the Mill of Glentane.
