Bridie over a lifetime was one of the most memorable faces of Connaught Street and the great communities of Athlone West of her generation.
Remembering Bridie and meeting her many times when growing up and continuing over a lifetime on her many dailiy routines ,to her work in Custume Barracks, To St Peters Church and the Friary, when it was alway's a pleasure to meet and greet her. I think it is safe to say that Bridie new everone in St Peter's parish and she never passed bye without her friendly exchange. Bridie had a gift in communicating with her neighbours and parishioners and her friendly nature and welcoming personality was synonomous with Connaught St and the legion of Connaught Women past and present who were the life and soul of a once great street and special community.

I met Michael working in Broderick's Bakery during school holidays in the 50's.working " On the Pans".

A real lady, Bridie was always so nice to us and interested in everyone, she'd pop down to us regularly with her little doggie when we first got to know her, and then with the stroller, more recently for her 93rd birthday to celebrate with a bit of cake. My late Mother Eileen (nee Moore), went to St Peter's with her in the 1940s. Thanks to Fintan Ward, they met up in Summer 2018, for the first time since school day's!! in the Lodge. They spent such an enjoyable time together reminiscing about their teen years, other school friends, the Nuns etc.
Unfortunately, their promise to meet again never happened. Mum died in Dec 2020, so please God they will meet again in Spirit. Rest peacefully Bridie 🌹
