Our heartfelt condolences to Brian and all of the family on the sad passing of Brigitte. It was a privilege to have met Brigitte. She was an incredibly kind and generous person, and we will always remember her. You are all in our thoughts.
My sincere condolences to Brigitte’s family, husband and close friends. I first came across her when I found her book, Beckett avant la lettre, ( Grasset, 2007) having just completed my BA at DCU and upon reading her book that year I decided that if I were to do a Masters, I would do it under her supervision.
In 2011, I met Brigitte face to face for the very first time, after having read her in French writing about my hero Samuel Beckett. I shall always remember seeing her face when I placed a first edition copy of her book on Beckett before her on the table in the cafe at DCU. She was slightly taken aback, and she laughed rather nervously. So began my encounter with her.
Brigitte went onto write the preface of my first collection of poetry, The Dark Pool ( 2015), and she helped me launch the book in Ardgillan Castle, close to my home in Skerries, north county Dublin. She became a dear friend and I simply can’t believe that she is gone.
I wish her husband John my very deepest condolences as I know he must be experiencing a profound sense of loss with her passing, as indeed must all her family and close friends.
She is already so sorely missed.
My deepest condolences to her mother and sister who must feel also such a tremendous loss.

I often think of Brigitte's kindness and warmth, though we only talked a few times. I was always aware of her important role in raising the profile of French studies in Ireland, via ADEFFI and the IJFS. She will be sorely missed. Toutes mes condoléances à sa famille.
My deepest sympathies to the Le Juez Family on the passing of your beloved Brigitte. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time.

I'm so very sad, Brian, to hear of Brigitte's premature death. I first knew her when she was a lectrice at UCD, and kept up with her through her resplendent career in French studies and Comparative Literature. I particularly remember one of her joyful picnics when I was extern at DCU. It was always a pleasure to be in her company: she lifted the spirits of all she engaged with. That is a rare quality, and she will be sorely missed. My deepest condolences to you, Brian, and to all her family.
My deepest sympathy to the Duffy and Le Juez families. I had the pleasure of working with Brigitte especially on the board of AMOPA Irlande. A gifted scholar, an inspiring lecturer, a warm and generous collaborator, she will long be remembered by those of us lucky enough to have had the joy and privilege of knowing her. Solas na bhflaitheas ar a h-anam alainn.

Brigitte was a most welcoming colleague to me when I moved from Maynooth to UCD in 1991. All too soon after that, UCD's loss became DCU's immense gain. Brigitte remained however, even after retirement, a discreetly dynamic and dedicated contributor to the Franco-Irish academic community, which aptly paid formal tribute last week not just to her trojan work but also to her 'loyal, gifted, gentle and witty' nature. It was always lovely to be in Brigitte's presence. Her approach to life and to people as well as to literature and learning was balm to the spirit. Deepest sympathy to you, Brian, on the loss of your anamcara et toutes mes condoléances à la maman et à la sœur de Brigitte et à ses proches.

Sincere sympathy to Brian. The Le Juez and Duffy families on the sad passing of Brigitte, May her soul rest in peace
On a lovely day (in 2011, I think), Brigitte and I were walking up the avenue leading to Ballymun Road from Glasnevin campus and talking about the daffodils growing there. I hadn't been in Ireland long and Brigitte told me about St Brigid's Day (her namesake, as she emphasised) and the beginning of spring on 1 February, which astonished me, having fairly recently arrived to Ireland from Germany, where spring starts on 20 March. For some reason, ever since then, I thought her birthday was on the 1 February and only recently found out this was utterly wrong (this also says something about my being clearly remiss about sending birthday greetings!). However, the link stuck and I’ll always associate Brigitte with the new beginnings of spring.
With heartfelt condolences to Brian, Micheline and Joëlle and all of Brigitte‘s family and friends.

Farewell Bridgette. You were one true friend to us and your diverse way of gardening brought us to a different place. You challenged us to think about the garden in a different way than our normal ways. You introduced us to a different aspect of gardening which we will always admire.

Brigitte was a valued colleague and a pioneer in French and Francophone Studies in Ireland. Her dedication to the promotion of French and comparative literature was unstinting and her legacy remains in her many publications, including her exemplary volume on Samuel Beckett as lecturer and the enduring influence of her teaching on her undergraduate and postgraduate students. Elle va nous manquer.
Sincere condolences to Brian and Brigitte's family on your sad loss . May Brigitte rest in peace .
It was with great sorrow that I learned about Brigitte’s passing. She was such a lovely person who had immense contribution for my career as a scholar.
As president of the European Society of Comparative Literature she was organizing a congress in Ireland in 2015, and we met in person and had the opportunity to visit Dublin and Galway. As a Brazilian just arrived in the UK, I was so insecure about my work, about presenting myself in such circles and Brigitte’s warmth and incentive were precious to me. She has done so much for the field and so much for young researchers. I’ll be forever grateful for the time and effort she put into my writing to help me to produce a nice chapter for “(Re)Writing Without Borders”. I’m full of gratitude for her competent and affectionate professionalism.
I hope her family and friends might find solace in the fact that she not only changed their lives, but that of so many others who will somehow keep her alive in new projects, other books and outstanding poetry.
Rest in peace, dear friend
There under lusciously green Irish soil
Let yourself be
The place for roses to grow roots
Like so many of those who loved poetry
Rested under your wings
Strengthen with your care
Let everything that forever was
Everything that will remain
Be as subtle as the moonlight on your gravestone
For though your body may slowly come one with the soil
Your memory will forever shine for those who hold you dear!

Really sad to hear the news of Brigitte’s passing. Such a shock. The little world of French Studies in Ireland will miss her, her inspiring research and her gentle energy. It was a pleasure to work with her over the years and I was delighted when she accepted to join the board of the newly created AMOPA Irlande as its first treasurer back in 2016. All my condolences to Brian, her family and close friends.

Dear Brian and dear Micheline. As you know, Brigitte had an extensive circle of people who loved her. She was a founding presence in my own life. I am so sad that we have lost her before I had a chance to reconnect with her properly. She was my lectrice when I was 19 or 20 in UCD, where she was a hugely dynamic, keenly intelligent, warm, and supportive presence. She gave vast amounts of her time and energy to put on the French play at UCD with great aplomb (L'Hôtel du libre échange, by Georges Feydeau, a classic and very funny farce). I will always remember the excitement of that. This was just one of the wonderful opportunities that she provided for students. She patiently made me cassette tapes of Georges Brassens and Barbara, and I listened to them incessantly. Those tapes contributed to improving my French pronunciation and comprehension, and gave me a love for the poetry and wordplay of those French classic singers. She retired from DCU a few weeks before I moved to Glasnevin campus, and I now occupy her old office. She gave me a lovely poster of Jacques Tati's Jour de fête to keep in the office – another classic of French culture. I will think of her whenever I see it. Wishing you strength in the days and months ahead. Brigitte was very much loved. I will always remember her with deep fondness and admiration.
Suaimhneas síoraí Brigitte. Rest in peace.
