Sincere Sympathy Bro's Colman , PJ and Nick on the death of Bro.Kieran .

I first met 'Mac' when, along with many other young boys, I went to the Hermitage in 1960. He was our teacher of Latin and Irish. But he was more than that. Mac, clearly understanding the loneliness and homesickness of first time boarding, spent evening after evening with us and, with his gentleness and kindness, eased our way through that first year. The bond between him and that 1960 group has endured ever since.

In later life Mac, now my friend, became an integral part of our family, sharing in many of the important occasions and events in Dublin and Kerry. Having Mac to dinner was always special. I frequently found myself smiling as he let Margaret know that her extensive menu should have included 'mushy peas'. A tincture of some Italian wine usually averted a crises.

Today, Margaret and I (and Ruth and John from the US) said a sad farewell to our old friend and send our deepest sympathies to his family and his Marist confreres.

As one of the first class out of Moyle Park in 1964 I always counted him as the best teacher I had there even though we only had him in 1st year but he taught us Irish, English, Maths, History , Geography but especially Latin which was his great forte - it was because of him I kept Honours Latin to Leaving Cert and even still remember him whenever I read Roman History.
After leaving school we didn’t meet again till I discovered early 2000’s he was back in Clondalkin so I met him again a few times with classmate Peter Ging - so glad now we had those get - togethers .
