Brother Paul (Dessie) Brennan

May Bro Paul rest in peace in Heaven after all his wonderful work over 50 years in Kenya. I visited him in Eldoret in 2010 with 4 pupils from Tullow Community School and we stayed for 2 weeks working with the pupils in his new developing school and out on the farm in Kabongo. He was so welcoming, and frequently called to my home here in Ogonnelloe in Co.Clare whenever he was home after that. I always organised a church collection for his on going work in Eldoret and he was so appreciative of this. He was such a dedicated down to earth man, a joy to spend time with. I know he is in Heaven.

My sincere sympathy to the Brennan family on the passing of Brother Paul. I benefitted from his teaching while he was a teacher in Newbridge in the 70's. Apart from being a great teacher he was a gentleman. I met him a few years ago in Busaras and we had a great chat. So sorry to hear of his passing. May he rest in eternal peace

Sincere condolences to all of Dessie's family, friends and the Patrician Brothers.In 2008 after fundraising for him by students in Mercy Convent Secondary School, Navan, Co.Meath Dessie came to visit and thank the students .The talk he gave students was motivational, inspiring each one to reach their full potential. His many achievements in Kabongo/ Eldoret are legendary. As said at his funeral Mass this morning , Dessie "was a gift to Kenya" . He was loved and respected by the local community. I was lucky enough to meet him in Kenya back in 2005 and 2009, going around in his pick-up truck as he proudly showed us the results of his hard work. He was great company and always entertaining. Brother Paul had an amazing ability to impart life in Eldoret in a simple ten minute address at Mass in Nobber when home on his holidays. He was passionate about education, optimising sports potential in all children, young adults and championing for the marginalised in his second home of Eldoret. He has left a lasting legacy which will leave his beloved Eldoret in a better shape than when he arrived there 50 years ago.

Well done good and faithful servant your work is well and truly done.

Deepest sympathy to the Brennan family and the Patrician family on the loss of Brother Paul, may he rest in peace. We were lucky enough to visit Paul twice in Kenya where Paul immersed us in Kabongo/Eldoret and brought us to all the places that had previously only existed in the imagination from childhood stories. He has left a lasting legacy with the schools and clinic he has built from scratch and all the other selfless work he did. I really enjoyed the golf and GAA banter with him and he got a good laugh out of witnessing Michelle and I trying to do a lap of the athletics track at Iten.

It was with great sadness that I heard of Br. Paul's passing from Dad & Mam. Br. Paul was a life long friend of our family, and we all enjoyed sharing the updates received. His whole life was lived with God & now in death he is with God.

Paul and I met in Tullow when we were about 15 years old. We went to the University of Galway together. It is hard to see an old friend like that pass.
Paul was a great man. He left a real legacy in Kenya. He will be sorely missed by his Kenyan friends. All I can do is pray for my old friend but I am sure that he does not need my prayers !! Rest in peace my old friend.

Dessie was a very special person. I have known him all my life. He loved telling us about his time in Eldoret. But it was only after reading the Condolences that I realized just how special he really was. One in particular from friends in Newbridge told his story. Rest In Peace Dessie. We have known and worked with Paul in Kenya for the past 12 years. We became dear friends and work colleagues. Paul devoted his time to improving the lives of the poor. He built Primary Schools, a Secondary school and clinics. He played a huge part in expanding the Patrician Brothers in Kenya. He bought land and set up farms to support the Patrician Community. He provided clean water for the poor by helping to develop water harvesting projects and boreholes.
He will be sadly missed not only for the work he did but for his big personality; a raconteur, always with a positive outlook and a can-do attitude to life's problems. We remember him fondly as a man of tireless energy and good humour. We will miss him dearly. Rest In Peace Paul. Your work is done.

I spent a year with Bro. Paul in Eldoret. I was in awe of the man from day one. His work, charity, passion and wit were truly inspiring. Bro Paul taught me at Patrician Secondary School in Newbridge in the 1970's. His energy, enthusiasm and love of all sports was a gift to the school and the local community that is still acknowledged today. A true gentleman. Rest in peace Paul.
