Caitlín O'BYRNE

Although we had been separated by time, distance and pandemic over the past few years, and communication was hampered by her failing hearing and vision, I was always hugely gratified to know that Caitlin was so well-loved and well-minded in her final days by so many members of her extended family, her extensive circle of friends and former students and - not least - by such wonderful professional carers, like Frances and Brid and many others before them.

I was profoundly saddened to learn of Caitlin’s death: she meant a great deal to me and my late mother, Colette, just as she did to so many other former students, friends and family members. But I am certain that, as long as Caitlin’s legion of protégés continue to make, to enjoy and to teach music, her legacy will be secure.

Caitlin was a wonderful piano teacher and a gentle, lovely person. She taught me and my sister Valerie from a very young age, and became a family friend. Many of her former pupils kept in touch with her over the years - a testament to the high regard in which she was held by us all. She was always interested in our lives, and delighted to hear we were still playing the piano! She will be fondly remembered.

Please know that you the O Byrne family are specially in my prayers at this sad time. I had the privilege of taking Holy Communion to Caitlin for about 8 years until Covid restrictions came into place. I am now based in Cork so unfortunately will not be able to attend the funeral Mass. May Caitlin now rest in peace

What a lady! My first piano teacher in the Municipal School of Music in Room 39, Chatham Row. I was also a frequent guest in Daneswood down the road, where she held her eagerly-awaited Christmas concerts every year. Caitlín had an optimistic, indomitable spirit and was an inspiration to all who knew her.

Feeling very fortunate to have celebrated Christmas mass last year with Caitlin - my aunt, piano teacher and life friend. She was always an inspiration and a great conversationalist throughout the years- she will be missed.
