I offer Primrose Jill David Caroline and the extended Bryan family my most sincere condolences upon the recent loss of Cecil in early January. Cecil was a true gentleman who took a huge interest in the lives and welfare of all whom he knew in the course of his ministry during his long career.

I had the privilege of meeting and knowing Cecil both as a parishioner in Tullow Parish in Carrickmines and in his capacity as Church of Ireland Chaplain to UCD also. I loved hearing about his career as an RAF Chaplain in Aden in the Middle East as well as in Britain and Canada too before he returned to be a parish rector in Ireland once again.

Cecil was very well liked and respected by the Roman Catholic priests who he worked alongside both in UCD Chaplaincy and in the vicinity of Foxrock as well. One of the highlights of that cooperation was the Jubilee 2000 interdenominational church service up in Tully Cross.

To say that such an affable and active gentleman did not deserve his diagnosis of Parkinson’s is a complete understatement. Cecil bore his illness with great strength and dignity for many years after he moved down to Newbridge for a quieter life. I proudly salute Primrose and the Bryan family for caring for Cecil and helping him with his debilitating circumstances for so long. I intend to make a donation to Parkinson’s Ireland in honour of Cecil’s long life and his legacy.

Canon Cecil Bryan played a special role in my life through both primary and secondary school, and we are honoured that he was the celebrant at our wedding. Cecil was our Chaplin during my amazing 6 years at KH, he was such a warm, friendly, positive person, he always had a smile on his face, I can picture him in his running gear and gloves on! As I was a border he really did make a difference to me being away from home. I am truly grateful to have known Cecil as he had such a powerful and spiritual influence during my time in school, may he rest in peace.
Sincere condolences to Primrose, David, Caroline and Jill. I’m very sorry to hear this sad news. I have such fond memories of “Rev. Bryan” back in school, particularly cross-country running with him in the afternoons. He was such a kind and encouraging man, and even these days, 30+ years later, when I’m out running he still comes to mind quite regularly, and I attribute much of my fondness for running to him. Thank you, and rest in peace, “Rev. Bryan”.
Deepest Sympathies to your wide family circle ,RIP .
