So sorry to hear of Canon Salter’s passing. He married us in Dec 1985 and he was such a wonderful person and left a lasting impression. Condolences to his family
My sincere sympathy to the wider Salter family but in particular to Bridget, Kate and Andrew. They can be justifiably proud of their Dad- a great Corkonian, a true patriot and a distinguished scholar who was always a kind and caring gentleman. I so much enjoyed the afternoon teas and the stories. May his gentle soul rest in peace
Sincere condolences to Bridget, Andrew and Kate at this difficult time. I often sat of interview panels with Canon Salter, his wisdom, professionalism, kindness and good judgement is something that I will always value. His contributions to higher education in Ireland will be felt for years to come.
I will always remember Canon Salter for his intellect, wisdom, graciousness, interest in people, and kindness. After Christ Church on South Main Street closed, we moved to his church in Shanakiel, St. Marys, and I have many good memories of those services and meeting him there. I especially remember the friendship and mutual respect which existed between him and my father Arthur Good. Canon Salter conducted a lovely service when my father died, and as a family we will always be very grateful to him for that.
Comhbhrón ó chroí le muintir Salter ar bhás Canon George. Bhí sé mar phriviléid agamsa bheith ar Bhord Rialaithe Institiúid Teicneolaíochta Chorcaí le Canon George ó 2010 to 2015. Fear uasal, umhal, críonna agus cneasta a bhí ann. Bhí an-chion aige don Ghaeilge agus don chultúr i gcoitinne. Bhí sé soiléir dom go raibh sé an-tiomanta do CIT, agus táimid uile in MTU thar a bheith búioch de as ucht an méid a dhein sé thar na blianta.

I am very sorry to hear of the passing of Canon George. I count myself very fortunate to have served on the Governing Body of CIT with him from 2010 to 2015. Those were momentous days as crucial work towards technological university designation and the establishment of MTU was undertaken. Throughout, Canon George demonstrated huge commitment to and interest in the Institute. It was always a pleasure to have the cúpla focal with him, and I will forever remember his dulcet tones as Gaeilge as he led us in prayer at the start of each meeting.

Suaimheas síoraí dá anam dílis, agus go dtuga Dia sólás dá mhuintir atá fágtha ina dhiaidh.
Sincere sympathies to the extended family on Canon Salter's passing. So sad to learn of his death. He was a part of my life for over 50 years. A great supporter of education, music, Irish culture, and the arts in general for many years and a much valued and trusted personal support during my time at the County Cork VEC and the Choral Festival. A special person, intelligent, interesting, and so humble in his person and character. Always encouraging, non-judgemental, living his Christan faith in a quiet way. His was a life well-lived, and lived to the full.
Leaba i measc na naomh go raibh aige. Suaimhneas síoraí dá anam uasal.

Sincere sympathy to Don and to all the family on the death of Canon Salter. We have many fond memories of him down through the years.
Deepest sympathy to Bridget, Andrew and Kate and the extended family on the death of Canon Salter. Known as 'The Canon' - no further clarification was needed as to who was being referred to - he was also affectionately known as 'The Bishop of the Northside' such was his presence, involvement in, and commitment to, the people and city of Cork, particularly the northside of the city. He wasn't just concerned about his flock or the Church of Ireland but the whole community.
He assisted at my parents' wedding in 1961, baptised my siblings and me and prepared the three of us for confirmation, officiated at my brother and sister-in-law's wedding in 1990, and encouraged me on the pathway to ordination. I am so sorry that I cannot be at his funeral service in Rathmichael. Ní fheicfimid a leithéid arís.
Our deepest sympathy is extended to Bridget, Andrew and Kate on the passing of their father Canon George, also to the extended Salter family. I had rhe pleasure of meeting and interviewing him a number of years ago. He was a wonderfully pleasant and caring person. May he rest in peace.
My Cork-born late father Desmond, who if alive would have celebrated his 100th earlier this year, often referred fondly to Rev. Canon Salter who, I gather, apart from his ministry role (also given his turbulent early family disruption in the birthing throes of the nation) demonstrated great humanity and generosity of spirit when advised that my two aunts, having fallen in love and each engaged to Roman Catholics, were obliged by the Ne Temere decree to forsake the Church of Ireland and raise their children in another tradition. My dad said that he asked them if they were in love, were their men of good character, and receiving positive answers said something to the effect that we are all children of God and as long as one “believes”, everything else falls into place— such an expression of pragmatic Christianity against a backdrop of dissent. May his memory be cherished by those whom he loved and love him.
So very sorry to hear of the death of Canon Salter. What a lovely gracious and supportive man he was. A staunch supporter of the Co. Cork VEC and all the schools . He was a lovely interviewer and so encouraging of newly trained teachers. May God grant him eternal rest.
