When I started to teach in St Brigid's in Derry in 1977, Carmel was our vice-principal. She had boundless energy, was an instinctive problem-solver and was a natural 'people person'. She cared about pupils and staff in equal measure, particularly the many young mothers who worked under her. I have very fond memories of debating on the same team as Carmel. Many's the subject was dissected on these occasions! I was truly sad to hear of Carmel's death and wish to relay my sincerest condolences to all her family.
Olwen although I never taught with your mother I have spent the last thirty years teaching in St Brigid's College Carnhill and have heard many wonderful stories of her work here. By all accounts she was a great teacher and friend to many of our former students. It was through a past pupil indeed that we heard of her death. Please know that we will remember your mum in prayer here in the school. May god reward her for all her kind deeds and console you and the rest of your family at this sad time.
