I have such happy memories of Ms. Hickey. She taught me in the late 70s and aside from being an exceptional teacher,she was patient and kind towards all of her pupils. I met her a few years ago and was able to tell her this in person. A teacher I have never forgotten. May she rest in peace .

Carmel was a true Mullingar woman, whose influence will long be felt in the parish she loved.

I am going back to 1966/67 in remembering “Miss Hickey” and I’m hoping that she knew the profound, positive affect she had on the countless children she educated through her long career. For me, her classroom was a safe, secure environment in which I thrived. She was the teacher who instilled confidence in me in my ability. I remember Miss Hickey as being kind, fair, encouraging and patient.

Ah Miss Hickey, such fond memories I am so sad to hear of her passing RIP I loved school and learning because of her . She was an amazing human being with such capacity for kindness and fun and was a brilliant teacher too. Her legacy will go on and we will fondly remember a real star. Shine bright in heaven Carmel - you were much loved by so many . And thank you for all you did for us .

Auntie Carmel, you were a beautiful soul, always looking out for others and so giving of your time and energy. You were very kind to me and my siblings growing up, and always made us feel special. We will miss you dearly. May your light shine eternal in heaven amongst the angels ❤️

I’m so sorry to hear of Carmel’s passing. She thought me in 3rd and 4th class and I loved her. We were her last class before she became principal. Our class photo hung in her office until the day she retired. So devoted, fair and kind, she’s the reason that I’m a teacher. Rest in Peace Miss Hickey agus Go Raibh Míle Maith Agat.

The best principal. Carmel was such a lovely lady. Always had a friendly hello and a smile. I will always remember getting a certificate off her while in school and she signed it in calligraphy writing and in gold pen. She was a great leader and a kind person. May she rest in peace.
