My Heartfelt Sympathies to Barry , Fiona , Una and Darragh on the untimely loss of a wonderful wife , mother and friend . Carmel and I were colleagues by chance but friends by choice . Carmel’s Christian Beliefs guided her daily living . Her students loved her classes , experiencing fairness, generosity, humour and interest in their well-being . Carmel’s face would lite up with happiness when speaking of her wonderful family .
I feel so privileged to have known Carmel .

I was deeply shocked & saddened to learn of Carmel's untimely passing. I have lovely memories of my friend Carmel, childhood memories of climbing trees & Carmel running for Frank to get me down as I had climbed too high. Our monthly letters to each other when she was in Ghana. When she returned home, the fun and laughter we shared when we travelled, everywhere together at weekends. Nights & weekends spend in Mallow & Killarney, nights we never went to bed until morning! These memories, I will treasure forever. Goodbye, My Dear Friend Carmel & May You Rest In Eternal Peace.

Carmel had a heart that cared completely. She cared for her students, for her colleagues, for her friends, for the world around her, but most of all she cared for her family. Barry, Fiona, Una and Darragh, you were at the heart of everything that Carmel did. And, in return, when the time came for her to be cared for, you did it beatifully, with the love and tenderness that she so truly deserved. YOU are what gave her the strength to fight the good fight that she did. May Carmel rest in perfect peace now and, in her absence, may God wrap his loving arms around you and help you to bear this loss.

I was so saddened to hear of Carmel’s death. It was a privilege and pleasure to have worked with Carmel. Carmel was a dedicated teacher and was able to mix fun and enjoyment in her teaching. Carmel always showed fairness both in her classroom and staff room . Carmel also looked out for people in need and many a cake sale the home economics department were roped into to raise funds for very worthy causes, and of course you could never refuse Carmel when she approached you with that beautiful smile. Barry, Fiona, Una, Darragh and the extended Curtin and O’Brien families my most sincere sympathies on your great loss, may you find comfort in all the beautiful memories you have of Carmel and May Carmel’s gentle soul rest in peace. I am sorry I could not attend Carmel’s funeral as I am away at the moment . Xx

She was immensely proud of her family and always spoke of you all with such love. My fondest memories of Carmel will be of the laughs we shared on school tours and on other escapades in and out of school over the past 30+ years. That smile! It was a priviledge to have been part of her journey and I hope you are all finding some solace in the beautiful condolence messages that have been left on these pages.

When I used to walk into the geography room for class it was never a dread. It was always a comfort to be in her presence. She always saw the best in me and always gave me that push whenever I needed it. She was more than just a teacher she was a great friend. We had a such a little bond in our geography class with only 12 of us. She was our mammy. One of my favourite memories together was our day to Ballybunnion, the laughs we had.

She always had a glint in her eye. She was special I always loved hearing her stories about her time in Ghana (the waving African lady). I often thought her there when I visited myself.

Carms you will always be a part of our lives and you will continue to live on through your beautiful children and husband. Rest in peace. Love always Emily xx

Carmel you were one of the teachers who saw beyond the uniform and saw into each of ours souls. Thanks for always allowing me to be me. You were down to earth and gave so much love always.
