As Lord Mayor on a visit to Northern Ireland, her grief overcame her during her speech owing to an outrage emanating from the south. She thereby represented us perfectly.

Dear Lucy, Linda, Wendy, William and Simon,
Our deepest sympathies as you bid farewell to your wonderful mum.
I have such happy memories in both 92 and Dolanstown. Sunday lunches, the play we put on for the Civic Institute, playing on your climbing frame, climbing the rocks in Roundstone, collecting mussels, riding, swimming, the Ridges home made butter, table tennis in the garage and so much more. Most of all, enjoying the company of our cousins.
May your mum rest in peace as she and your dad smile down on you and your families. Le grá.

It was with great Sadness I learned of the death of Carmencita. I served with her on Dublin City Council for many years and we shared the same ward . She was a passionate politician with a great commitment and love of our city.
She served as our Lord Mayor with great distinction and integrity.
While we did not agree on everything I always enjoyed her company and her commitment to the city. My condolences to her family. Unfortunately I am away at present and cannot attend her funeral. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a n-anamacha .

It was good to see her last at the unveiling of the portrait of first women Lord Mayor of Dublin. At the three Wonen Lord Mayor of Dublin you led the way for other to follow.
