Clive, and family. Very sad to learn of your loss and you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.
Clive I can't imagine how difficult this all is. I've just sent on this poem we've read before and I think it's really comforting. Hope it might make you feel a little comforted too.
I am standing on a seashore.
Suddenly, a ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts out for the blue ocean.
She is an object of beauty and strength and I stand and watch her until she shows only as a ribbon of white cloud just above where sea and sky mingle with each other. Then someone at my side says “ she is gone”.
Gone where?
Gone from my sight that is all.
She is just as large in the masts and hull, as she was when she left my sight.
And just as able to bear her load of living freight to the place of destination.
Her diminished size is in me, not in her, and just at the moment when someone at my side says “She is gone”,
there are others voices ready on another shore to take up the glad shout,
“here she comes.”
And that is dying.

To Clive, Alex and Laura, my deepest sympathies to you and the rest of the Elliot and Bruce families. I remember Carol from the good old days in BOI and she always would ensure we were in stitches laughing over an otherwise boring lunch break. May she rest in peace. Jenny
