Cathal was a friend of mine for over 40 years. I can honestly say there was never a time. I met him when we didn’t have fun and a laugh , right to the end.

He was so proud of his family and had his priorities completely in the right order.

He will be greatly missed and always remembered.

My deepest sympathies to the O'Donovan family. I have very fond memories of Cathal as the quiz master and also as the DJ at the Knocklyon Special Olympic fundraisers and parties. Cathal really was a wonderful character who brightened up the place wherever he was. May he now rest in peace.

So sorry to hear of Cathal’s passing. It was only after I left AIB that we discovered our mutual love of Liverpool FC (to his disbelief that he didn’t already know!). He was delighted telling me his house is called “Anfield” - impressive! He was such a lovely, warm character with a great sense of humour. But he also clearly cared deeply for his beloved family and other interests which he spoke of passionately, including special olympics. My sincere condolences to his family and friends. RIP Cathal YNWA.

May Cathal rest in peace, I didn't know Cathal but have heard what a really lovely great man he was, from people who knew him in the Knocklions Special Olympics athletics club, my son was a member. And I believe Cathal was instrumental in setting it up years ago, he has made such a difference to the lives of many young people who love going there. May you be reaping your reward in Heaven now Cathal. Deepest sympathy to all your family at this very difficult time, God give you all strength.

Dear Eileen, Gráinne, Michael and love to Deirdre ~ we are so saddened to learn about Cathal. Such fond memories of spending time at your house, Cathal was always game for a bit of mischief and loved to share his jokes and riddles, and made the best coffee when we’d have elevenses. We were only recently talking about him and Damian as we reminisced over some photos from our teenage years. May they both rest peacefully.
