I am heartbroken at the loss of a very dear friend. Catherine and I were polar opposites in terms of faith but inseparably linked when it came to civil liberties, freedom, autonomy and the common good. I wish I could have visited her in her final days and I fervently pray that she is reunited with her mother and father in the peace of God's kingdom.

I was so shocked and saddened to hear of Catherine's death. She was a friend of mine since she first came to work in Limerick Corporation in 1994. We kept in touch over the years and sadly we last met at her mother's funeral only a short time ago. Catherine was very kind, gentle, erudite and polite.
