There was a kind of parabola to the good life of Mrs Griffin. Uphill from the foot of Church St and its busy thoroughfare and downhill through Main Street/Bridewell St to the panacea of St Patrick's Terrace. From there access to the Island Road and the balm of the Shannon's ebb and flow or the seasoal wonders of Leslie's Wood. And, when the Bridewell was rejuvenated, lured occasionally by the cup of coffee and the good company that one encountered there. Adjudged Tarbert's No 1 Citizen, not only because of her seniority but her affability, openness and good grace. I was privileged to meet with her again, during the heady days of the Cuckoo Walking Festival. May her good soul rest in peace and may she be remembered in the chroinicles of Tarbert.
