Dear mick and family I am so sad to be writing this …. Kate was known to me before I had the privilege of actually meeting her and she was spoken of frequently in our family home due to my mums great friendship with her gorgeous sister in law and micks sister Mary Stephenson …. And they always spoke so highly of her …. I eventually did meet Kate in person when I got a job in Moore abbey and I totally understood why everyone loved her …. And in our work life our paths crossed many times … when she retired we would meet in the keadeen for coffee …. more importantly Kate has been at every single one of my family funerals to support me and my family …. most recently in early October …. She had this ability to just reach out at the most important times in my life and her gentle kindness was always evident …. Our last conversation in October we were to arrange to meet up again and I’ll be forever disappointed that it did not happen …. Kate loved her family immeasurably and she was always talking about her kids and grandkids and their McCoy cousins …. I know she loved being part of a big family …. I am so very sorry for your loss mick and family and will be thinking of you all in the days and weeks ahead

Kate was a wonderful colleague to have had the joy of working with and knowing so well in those years when part of the team at Barrow Mill in Monsastervin. Kate's warmth and sense of humour was like balm on a difficult day. I learned not to get directions from her because these would come with complications mentioning a green wall or a red door. I also realised that Kate noticed the many little things others might miss and when she quietly mentioned something to me, I listened because what she noticed often made the difference and I learned to notice better too. Many times, her warmth made it possible for people feeling able to hear difficult things. She knew I had a quirky sense of humour and if she saw something in the paper that would make me smile, it would be left on the desk. Kate was kind and felt things deeply. She was blessed with a disposition of being able to speak directly but never harshly. She loved her family and spoke with joy always of Mick and the children and grandchildren. Life to her was savoured in what you did together. She has left us with stories often told and will be again, and memories that still make me smile. What a legacy that is to those of us who were colleagues or friends. Your loss is hard and came too soon. I hope that you will see her energy in your own lives and how you carry some of her nature in the everyday. Today I am so glad to have known her in the way I did. May you be consoled by knowing her joy and wisdom had a far reach.

Kate was truly a one of a kind lady.We were privileged to have her as our first and best social worker when Donna was small,she's now 35 and I still periodically met up with Kate for a cuppa and a chat.i wouldn't be the mother I am today if not for Kate and her knowledge, wisdom,wit and advice at challenging times so thank you all from the bottom of my heart for sharing her with us.
