Although I never knew Charles, he was so obviously held in such high esteem by his son, Brendan, that he can have been nothing short of a great man.

Granddaughters, Jessica and Christina, spoke only with affection and love about him, and must hold many truly special memories.

That he created such a gorgeous and caring family, is a genuine measure of a human being who lived according to heart-felt principles, and who successfully passed them on.

You may lose the man, but never the legacy.

I just wanted to extend my heartfelt condolences to Brendon, Lorna, Jess, Christina and the extended Maye family for the loss of their beloved Father and Grandfather.

I never knew Charles but his legacy clearly lives on through his children, and their children. What I have seen is how much love there is for him. There is never enough time with those we love but seeing the devotion from Brendon in particular to keep spending time with him even though he was a plane ride away and knowing how he was never far from his thoughts it is clear to see.

I hope that being with him in his final hours brings some comfort and that in your individual journeys through grief for his passing you can be proud of the man he clearly was through his full life , to have such a devoted family, I have no doubt he was very proud of you all.

Treasure your precious memories and each other every day.

My condolences to all your family. I met Charles when he came to visit Brendan's and Lorna's lavender gift shop and cafe in Epsom, where I have the good fortune to work. Charles came across as a delightful man. I am sorry for your loss, but without knowing him well, I know that he raised a lovely man in Brendan, who works hard, cares for the land, fixes items, rather than throws away and buys new, takes care of his staff, and most importantly loves his family. May the love of Charles always surround you.
