I was terribly sad to hear of Charles’ passing. He was a kind, gentle man and a lovely neighbour who I remember fondly from my childhood and beyond.

I have fond memories of Charles, a true gentleman with a sharp intellect. I remember as a child overhearing him say that University Challenge had become harder as he could no longer answer most of the questions. I have never manager to answer more than a few!

My childhood memories of us in Castleknock, and staying over for midnight feasts, and at breakfast the next morning when I expected a roar out of him, but a 'gentle giant', proclaimed that the cupboard door of the feasting goods, was indeed ajar...

The silence that reigned in the house when Mastermind came on the TV, was only interrupted by the sound of his adored classical music, he was his very own maestro.
When we grew up, he adressed up with the same respect, he was indeed a very unique human being. We will all miss him very much.
