Saturday's Mass in Dalkey parish reminded me of our Columban close knit ties with Charlie's brother Seoul-based Fr Kevin, R.I.P.
After the church-tv provided service Kevin's classmate here Fr Kevin Fleming reminded me of Charlie's visit to Seoul years ago, and the tour with himself to the Seoul fish market and to the Suwon Museum that so delighted Charlie, R.I.P.

He was so kind to my son Gary and he would recall their lovely chats that i felt i knew Charles ....... a very kind man with a warm and understanding heart. Charlie and I go back a long long way from our time in An Foras Forbartha. We car pooled together in the 80's and always got to work on time !. Charlie was also my table tennis partner back in the day. He was the steadier player and we won all round us. I have so many fond memories of Foras socials where Charlie would sing his heart out. Our thoughts are with you all at this sad time.

Sincere sympathy on Charlie’s passing, use to meet him with Fr Kevin and Joe at the Visitation in Killygarry, along with my cousin Courtney Murphy from Greystones. Charlie is the last of a generation of o’rourkes. His mother worked in retail in America and delighted in telling us children that when she lifted the phone in the morning she had to say ‘Good morning from Bloomers’.
