I am so very sorry to hear of Charlies passing. I remember him with love and affection. We spent a lot of fun times together during our diving days, such good times and so many happy memories. Rest in peace Charlie.

our shared love of the Island and the rocky boy days became the starting point for many interesting chats. A genuine, unassuming man and a talented electrician. He will be missed on the Island. My sincere condolences to his family. Go raibh suaimhneas síoraí air.

When we moved to Cork we had the great pleasure of meeting Charlie and becoming part of the legendary Barbecue family of Hansboro. He “adopted” us and we became known as “maw and paw”. Our times together were strongly influenced by Charlie, his sense of ridiculous fun and wit have left forever quotes, often repeated, with much laughter. A unique person barely covers the character whose very presence lifted all present. His very early leaving is truly heartbreaking and we can only try to imagine the grief of Charlie’s family and wonderful friends Trish and Peter. Love you son.

My deepest sympathy to Mary, Anne, Joe, and family on your great loss. Charlie was one of a kind. I first met him when he came to Sherkin in the 1970s to volunteer with Fr Roch and the Echo Boys. As the years passed, Charlie became a close friend to me and my family. He was very good to me over the years and was always willing to help, no matter what mad idea I asked him to help with. He was also very good to my parents when he lived in Cork and my mother thought the world of him.

It was heart breaking that his illness took him so soon. As someone has said in the last few days, "it's hard to imagine Sherkin without Charlie". We will remember him always.
