Condolences to the Hammond family. Charlie was the man to go to if you wanted anything done in the neighbourhood. He had time for everyone and their concerns. A real Champion of the people. May he rest in peace.
My deepest sympathies to the Hammond Family on their great loss. I knew Charlie through his work in the Liberties where he brought his immense and very formidable intellect to bear in defending Liberties communities often in the face of very powerful interest groups. He was stalwart and fearless in this work - a brilliant and brave speaker who brought everything he had learned as a Trade Unionist into his activist work in his own community. He did all of this with a largeness and generosity of spirit, an innate kindness, humour and humanity that made him wonderful company. It was a very great honour to have Charlie as a friend and to find such a welcome in his and Marie’s lovely home. Charlie once told me that one of his favourite things was to sit with Marie in their garden on sunny evenings and watch the pigeons flying in. That is just one of the many memories of Charlie and Marie that I cherish. Thank you to the Hammond Family for allowing people to watch his beautiful funeral service.
Sorry to John & your family on the loss of your dad. Thinking of you at this difficult time.

Sincere condolences to all the Hammond family on the passing of Charlie. Worked with Charlie many years ago in the GPO. He was the go to man with work issues, he was a football man, a pigeon man, a wise man and a thorough gentleman. Many things come to mind especially the Christmas Carol group singing for a worthy cause and Charlie giving a daily solo rendition of White Christmas in O'Connell St outside the GPO, much to the amazement and delight of Christmas shoppers. Great days, great times and great memories. Thank you Charlie. Rest in peace

Rest in peace Charlie
I am so sorry to hear the news and send our sincere sympathies to all Charlie’s family at this sad time. My recollections of Charlie and Marie are filled with great affection, admiration and respect. I worked with him in the 1970’s in the GPO and later, for many years, in the CPSU. Charlie was a man of great integrity and vision and he was tireless in his pursuit of the interests of his colleagues/members. But he was so much more than that because Charlie always had a smile, a warm word to greet you, a wonderfully wicked sense of humour and he brightened every social gathering with some great stories and songs. He will be very sadly missed by so many.

Rest In Peace Charlie.
Sincere condolences to all in the Hammond extended family. Charlie and I worked together in the CPSU in the late 80s to late 90s. He was a very committed trade unionist and also very committed to family and neighbourhood. We didn't always see eye to eye but knew, I hope, that we were always on the same side. His dry sense of humour always livened up the tea room in Head Office. Loyalty is probably the word I would most associate with Charlie. Rest in peace, Charlie.
Sincere condolences to the Hammond family and Marie on the sad passing of Charlie he was such a lovely man Rest In Peace Charlie
Our deepest sympathies to the Hammonds and their extended families on the death of Charlie. We were very sad to hear the news. We all worked together in room 416 and they were great times. We have lots of memories of him but our favourite one is when we used carol sing outside the GPO and although we were not great, when Charlie crooned his party piece - A Little Old Wine Drinker Me - suddenly we would have an audience singing along and putting money into the collection box! Charlie was a gentleman and had an interest in everybody. He, along with Marie, will leave a huge void in your lives but I know that the memories will give you some comfort. Sorry we cannot offer our sympathies in person. May Charlie Rest in Peace

My deepest condolences to you on the passing of your father. First met your Dad through involvement in the CPSU. Your Dad was a true gentle person committed to helping people and fighting to make sure working people were treated with respect and dignity.
So sad to hear of Charlies passing. He was a true gentleman of the highest integrity. Loved listening to his stories when I worked in Room 416 in the GPO. He looked after us all and while we really missed him when he went to cpsu headquarters he never forgot his roots and worked tirelessly for us in the cpsu. We will never see the likes of him again.

Deeply saddened to hear of the death of Charlie. He was a thorough gentleman and I have wonderful memories of him in room 416 in the GPO. He always gave his best to his workmates and was a true trade union man always willing to listen and help anyone. We always remember him here in our household for the best rendition of Old Man River. Our sincere condolences to all of his family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this very sad time. May he rest in eternal peace. Paul and Jackie.
Deepest sympathies to the Hammond family on your sad loss. I first met Charlie in the 1970s when he was the branch secretary of the Dublin Drivers Branch he was a great union rep who committed his life to improving the lives of working class people. Years later I had the privilege of managing a team at Cherry Orchard Charlie’s grandson Kenneth played on that team Charlie will be sadly missed R I P
Very fond memories of Charlie and his lovely wife Marie when I worked in the Liberties. As many have said, Charlie's Union principles and fighting spirit went way beyond his working life, into retirement. His contribution inspired many across generations, be they workers or his own community, fighting tirelessly to conserve and achieve fairness for the area with other activists. He was simply an inspiring person with a great big infectious laugh. I have the best memories visiting him & Marie with Paula Brudell, where we always received a warm welcome and shared a laugh in between the discussions. Charlie's sense of solidarity to me in difficult moments was the difference that made the difference. A truly kind man. Sincere sympathy to his family and those close to him. Rest in Power Mr Hammond. X
