Such a quiet-spoken man was Charlie, whose gentle smile said it all, knowing he never needed to raise his voice - when Charlie spoke you listened intently. A lovely, wonderful man of great intelligence.

Charlie was a bright, intelligent, very friendly, warm person and it was always a pleasure to meet him.
He had a great warmth for my mother Bridie and she for him. She was invited as one of his surprised guests to “This this is your Life” in Leisureland in 1979 it was a night to remember.
Galway was all the richer for having a person of Charlie’s calibre and he loved his adopted “City of the Tribes”.
He will be a great loss to Vera and to his loving family, his wide circle of friends, his neighbours and all who knew him.
Charlie may your gentle soul now rest in eternal peace.

Meeting Charlie in the garden is one of my favourite memories of my childhood in Pollnarooma. In recent years he showed the same kindness and friendliness to my own children every time we visited. He will be sorely missed by everyone on the road. My sincerest condolences to Vera and all the family.

I got to know Charlie in the early 70’s while working in Ford Belfast and also thro Antrim GAA circles.
Charlie left Ford in 1973 and moved to Digital in Galway and amazingly we met up again 10 years later when I joined Dec in Galway in 1983.
Had a great chat reminiscing of past times with him at the recent Digital Football Reunion.
Such a wonderful person and a true Gentleman, Charlie will never be forgotten.

Blessed to have spent time with Charlie on the journey from Galway to Dublin for the All Ireland final, he drove myself Caoirse & Jenny and I will never forget him asking if we wanted to hear a song, of course we said yes presuming he would turn up the radio but instead he turned it off and sang to us, a very fond memory indeed ❤️ A gentleman who raised a beautiful family. His beautiful soul will look down over Caoirse, Mike, Roisin & Vera minding them from above the clouds. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Ah Charlie, what can I say but a last goodbye 🥲you were one of life’s REAL gentleman and your smile was infectious to all.
Whomever you met Charlie you made them feel they were the only person in the world.
A great memory I have of Charlie (and his life) was when we the Digital Sports and Social Club decided to do a ‘This is Your Life’ for Charlie in Leasureland with over 2000 DEC people attending. It was a huge surprise to Charlie and especially when his Mum and siblings were the ‘icing on the cake’ when they took centre stage at the end of his ‘story’, he not knowing they were in his adoptive city of Galway.
Oh Charlie what a night that was and no one deserved that special event more then you, you were and always will be one of the best, son, brother, husband, dad, grandad and a TREASURED friend we all had the pleasure of knowing- thanks so so much for the memories xxxx
How I’ll miss the chats Charlie when we met on the prom or at the golf club but I will treasure the many ones we shared.
It showed in early years how respected and loyal you were Charlie especially to us DEC gang.

We were delighted that Charlie was able to attend the recent Digital Interfirms Football Reunion celebration. In his address, Charlie recounted all aspects of the 1979 All-Ireland Interfirms victory and the Digital traits of honesty, integrity, ability and commitment to the game, that secured it. He, himself, abundantly demonstrated these attributes in his role as Plant Manager.

We will always remember in a very special way the happy times we enjoyed with Charlie.

May his gentle soul rest in peace.
