May Charlie RIP.
Sincere condolences to all of his family and friends 🙏
It was a pleasure meeting Charlie’s family Thursday evening and to observe Helen’s courage. though in sombre circumstances. Mossie and I enjoyed meeting each of you and Charlie’s sister, and had he been looking down, he would have been so proud of you.
I first met Charlie when I retired just over twenty-five years ago. On that occasion, he gave me a lift on my first visit to the Curragh Chess Club and soon I learned to value his friendship and admire the qualities of his character.
In those days, the light hearted banter, between Charlie and other veterans who have also passed on, made the evenings of serious chess so enjoyable.
Of course, we travelled to matches together and I enjoyed his company but, alas, these simple pleasures do not last forever.
Derek
