I am saddened to find out about Charlie's death and offer my deep condolences to all members of his family. I met Charlie in the 1970s in London and was in awe of his humour and intellect. It did not take long to realise that he also had an impish enjoyment of fun and laughter. A good man who will be missed by many.
I only learnt of Charlie's passing a few days ago and very saddened by the news. Learning of Charlie's health issues I was due to travel from Australia in 2020 and intended visiting him whilst in Ireland, but due to Covid the trip never happened. Growing up in Bangor with Charlie, he was a bit of a cool local icon even then with his natural Jimi Hendrix style hair. Yes he had hair then. Also spent time with Charlie in London around the time he owned a Norton motorcycle from memory. Managed to catch up with him in Dublin back in 2000, soon after he had returned from the States with his family and we travelled up to Belfast and Bangor to stay with Sam and Haydn and see a Van Morrison concert. A great life and great memories Charlie, love you, will miss you. Sincere condolences to Mariad and India and Domino who all made me feel so welcome when I arrived in Dublin back then.
Fondest memories of the chats and laughs with Charlie when we both lived in Bray and who more often than not was accompanied by his beloved Mr Blue. The hedonistic days at Windmill Lane where amongst the very cool and the very talented, Charlie reigned supreme. Heartfelt sympathies to Domino and all the family. RIP dear Charlie x
Condolences to all the family. It was such a beautiful and fitting service for a wonderful Man & artist RIP Charlie.
I have very fond memories of Charlie from the old days in Windmill Lane. He was one talented and cool individual with a wonderfully dry sense of humour.
My heartfelt sympathy to all his family and friends at this sad time.
Sitting side by side with Charlie for years as we both launched into new worlds, careers and lives, traveling in the Deep South, and then moving to a new land together for mad adventures of the soul were, combined, one of the great gifts of my life. Charlie taught me so much about art, country music and the old blues, life, pain and poetry. He was erudite and a truly free spirit. A unique, charming, funny and wonderful friend, I have a Charlie-shaped hole in my life that no-one will ever fill. It's a difficult pancake, but you'll make so many friends out there, Charlie. My deepest sympathies to Mariad, India, Domino, Julia, Ruby Mae and his family.
Domino & India,
Our sincere condolences on the loss of your wonderful father.
Gaby and Nadia

Ian & Sinead.
Rest in Peace Charlie - it was an honour to know you and help you, even if in a small way. I will remember your quizzical greetings on the beach as you rescued the seals and walked with Blue.
Condolences to all your loved ones. You leave a big hole in the hearts of many. A rare breed amongst men, you will be sorely missed. To be loved and appreciated is everything, and you surely were both in abundance. Sarah x
Domino, Mariad and family, I'm very sorry for your loss.
RIP Charlie
We were saddened to hear of the passing of Charlie. We were privileged to make his acquaintance, when he and Julia were near neighbours of ours. Charlie was someone who, if you were lucky to have had even the briefest of contacts with him, could utter a remark, conjure an image, or share an anecdote with you, and it would remain with you forever. Our deepest condolences to Julia, Ruby-Mae, and the rest of his family.
I will always treasure the wonderful times we had in LA. Love you Charlie, may you Rest In Peace.

Sending prayers for peace and comfort for Domino, India and Mariad. Love you all.
We were blessed to have Charlie among us in Dalkey for a while - He was so generous with fellow artists, tips and tricks and a very honest opinion! Many an evening explaining the virtues of painting versus the dreaded 'sculpture', a wee dram and a sneaky Marlboro Light. We shall not have his like among us again, but will always relive his stories. RIP lovely Charlie
I will always remember Charlie with great affection.
We work together at Windmill Lane in the late 80's. He was a genuine lovely friend with a huge talent.
I would like to extend my sincere sympathy and condolences to all of his family.
So sad and sorry for your loss, all my sympathy, rest in peace Charlie
It is with great sadness that we learned of the death of Charlie Whisker. We got to know Charlie and Julia as neighbours in Bray. We will remember with fondness our many interactions and his unique take on life and what was important.

We extend our deepest sympathy to Julia, Ruby May and all of Charlie’s family.
Domino and family, I'm so sorry for your loss. rest free Charlie xG
Charlie Whisker will be missed by so many, even those of us who never met him. His paintings have such a powerful effect on me. I love the humour in them but also the more serious or imperfect side of the moments or memories he created. That sums up life for me! Charlie leaves such an extraordinary legacy, not only in his art but in his children and grandchildren who I'm sure will keep his spirit alive.
Sincere condolences to the Whisker Family and all of Charlie's loved ones.
"The song is ended but the melody lingers on" - Irving Berlin
Sincerest sympathies to Mariad, Domino and India and to Julia and Ruby Mae on the sad passing of Charlie. He was blessed to have you all and all your love especially in these last difficult years. He interviewed me for NCAD in 1985 and while I was intimidated a little by this striking cool man in black, his words were kind and reassuring to me on that day and I have never forgotten that .He was a great artist and had a unique and fascinating take on the world and his shows over the years were unmissable. He will be sorely missed.
Rest In Peace.
Heartfelt sympathy on Charlie's passing to all his family.
Our thoughts are with you, Mairead, Domino and India during this difficult time for you all.
It was Charlie who told me how to 'take a line for a walk' and where to find the best books in the library. He showed us everything from Piranesi etchings to Pop Art. And along the way he managed to mention Vegetarianism, Rimbaud, Flannery O'Connor and Country Music.
In my mind I can still see Mariad and Charlie walking back up the stairs to the studios after morning coffee break with everyone milling around.
'Death is but crossing the world, as friends do the seas; they live in one another still.' (William Penn, Quaker,1693). Every condolences to those Charlie leaves behind. I last spoke with him at the funeral of Delphine Kelly in Dublin, who adored her grand-daughter, Ruby-Mae.

Finola O'Sullivan, Cambridge, England.

Death leaves a heartache no-one can heal, love leaves a memory no-one can steal.
Sincere sympathies to all the Whisker family. Charlie was the coolest tutor in NCAD when I was there. I remember he saw me at a Dr John gig in Dublin and told me I’d get extra points for attending the concert. The Moto Guzzi California , the Schott leather jacket and the Austin Cambridge that kept breaking down. Legend
Sending all our sympathies to Charlies family. Charlie was one of life's gentlemen - talented, compassionate, considerate and with a great sense of humour. We have his work in pride of place and it will always keep his memory fresh. I still giggle at Charlies story of driving on the motorway with a seal pup climbing over the seats of his new car, his concern was for the pup not the new car! Rest in peace Charlie, your life made a difference.
My deepest sympathy to Mariad, Mara and the girls. May Charlie rest in peace.Mary OCarroll
