Deepest condolences to all the family on the passing of Chris. I knew him for most of thirty years from the days of DEC and of many collaborations between Chris and myself, and between DEC/Compaq/HP and our Business Information Systems Discipline at NUI Galway over the years. I will miss Chris's optimism and good humour at all times, an easy man to like and respect. I taught Colum and pass my respects to him. May he rest in peace.
I have been abroad for some months and apologise for being unable to attend the funeral.

I have such fond memories of Chris during my time in Galway. Wonderful conversations, initiatives and achievements. Please accept deepest condolences from Deirdre and myself. We will miss Chris and his optimistic, larger than life view of the world.
My heart broke a little this morning when I read of Chris's death. I'm so very sorry to hear of it and send my sincere condolences to his family, friends and everyone who knew him. I worked with Chris for many years in HP/HPE. I will remember him with great great fondness. He was a wonderful colleague and team mate.
Sincere sympathy on the death of Chris. RIP. Aongus Hegarty and Martina Kelly (ex Digital Galway)
I was shocked and saddened to hear of Chris’s death. Chris and I worked together in Digital/Compaq/HP for over twenty years. I had the privilege of working and travelling with him on many projects. Chris’s reaction to any problem was to see how he could help to solve it. He was incredibly generous with his time and had boundless energy.
I met him many times since I left HP and enjoyed many conversations with him on an eclectic range of topics. The range of Chris’s knowledge was incredible. The last time I talked to him was about six weeks ago and we had planned to meet for a coffee and discuss genetic genealogy.
What I can say about Chris as a person is that I never saw him intentionally hurt anybody, say anything bad about anybody and he continuously went out of his way to help anyone who asked for it. He was devoted to his family and talked about them with great pride.
I will miss Chris and the conversations we will never have. Over the last number of days so many memories have been flooding back including ones that make me smile such as when we blagged our way into the MIT Media Lab 5th birthday party in Boston back in 1990. It was like two kids in wonderland.
My sincere sympathy to Joan, Sean, Sinead, and Colum. He was a great man who you can really take pride in.

I was so sorry to hear of Chris' passing. I was just getting to know him again after a long time of not being in touch. We worked together for a number of years in Digital. We struggled, laughed, stroved and travelled together. Chris' enthusiasm, creativity of thought, and commitment to whatever he undertook were always an inspiration and a model for others. My sincerest sympathies to Joan, Sean, Sinead, and Colum.
Very very sad to hear this evening of the passing of Chris. He was an achiever,a mover and a doer and I had three great years in Galway Lawn Tennis Club where Chris served on the committee. Even when he had huge projects on the go he somehow found time to help the club out and me in particular .If I go on to describe his achievements then I will be writing for a while so I will just describe him. Chris was a rock of a man, unrivalled, unmatched and unbeaten. Thanks Chris

May I offer my sincere condolences to Chris's family and friends. I got to know him through his passion for the Computer and Communications Museum and my working with him and his team of committee volunteers towards achieving a thriving and established museum with its unique collection. I hope I can be of help in the future to see this ambition flourish in the way he envisaged and achieve accreditation in the Heritage Council's Museum Standards Programme for Ireland. He will be remembered.
I was shocked and saddened to hear that Chris had left us. I had the pleasure to work with Chris in Digital between 1988 and 1994. It was my first job after I qualified, he was always very kind and encouraging to a Dublin kid who was still tying to figure out what he wanted to do when he grew up. Chris help me broaden my horizon beyond engineering and encouraged me to further study. My sincere condolences to family and friends on their loss. AP
beannacht Dé ort Chris agus gach sólás ar do chlann. thug tú an-tacaíocht dom i gcónaí le suáilceas croí.
It was with great shock and extreme sadness that we learned of Chris’s passing. Both of us knew Chris, Ann through playing tennis with Joan and John through his work with the Computer and Communications Museum. Chris was one of the main driving forces behind the Museum project and an inspiration to everyone on the committee. His enthusiasm was infectious and spurred everyone on to help achieve his vision. He was a lovely person to know and he’ll be sorely missed. Our condolences to Joan and family. May he rest in peace.
