Thanks
Before finishing there are some people we’d like to thank.
We’d like to thank the staff of the Galway clinic and the University College Hospital Galway. In particular we’d like to thank the amazing staff who work in the ICU. We know, that they, like us, were devastated at the outcome for mam.
While mentioning the ICU we’d like to thank the families of other patients in the ICU who supported us during this period and wish their loved ones a speedy recovery.
We’d like to thank the funeral directors, Gerry & Judy Collevy and Fr Karl Burns for guiding us and supporting us through the last few days.
We’d like to thank the co-concelebrants at today’s mass, the gravediggers, the guards of honour, the mass servers, the parish choir, and those involved with Pastoral Centre and the Franciscan Agricultural College.
Also we’d like to thank our neighbours and close friends, who have made oceans of cups of tea & coffee and never ending supply of food and the many acts of kindness. Mam is privileged to have such good neighbours.

E is for Energy
We simply don’t know where she got her energy from.
Multiple community groups, 5 kids, 7 grandchildren, 12 nephews/nieces, getting the turf home every year from the Cost del Bog and setting new Personal Bests as she walked around the forest daily.
R is for Religion and Relationships
Religion and faith were important to mam. She was the local distributor of the Messenger magazine. She was a regular mass-goer and attended novenas in Esker, Clonfert, Knock and Clonard. Whenever we’d exams or were flying somewhere a candle was lit. She found much solace from her religion and faith following dad’s death.
Mam had many close relationships and for these good friends, we’re also devastated for them at Mam’s passing.
That’s a simple snapshot of our mother.
We will miss her.

H is for Health, Hobbies and Homebaking.
Mam’s chosen worklife was in the area of health and in particular nursing; perhaps vocation may be a better word to use. Her nursing service included periods in Psychiatric nursing in St Patricks Hospital Castlerea, General Nursing in Walsgrave General Hospital Coventry, Theatre Nursing in St Vincent’s Dublin and then Midwifery in the Rotunda (where she was awarded the gold medal) and in the Regional Galway with her finally ending up as Public Health Nurse in the local area.
She retired in 2012. She loved nursing but she also loved retirement.
In retirement she was able to spend more time working on her garden & the sunhouse, taking-on another room makeover, improving her bridge playing as well as her involvement in various community groups. She also spent time, actually watching TV, with her two favourite shows involving the Browns – Mrs Brown’s Boys and Vincent Brown & whoever was his latest poor victim.
She was well known as home-baker specialising in Brown bread, Apple & Rhubarb Tarts and Pavalova. If you called to the house, you were always in for a treat.

O is for Others
A common theme from the many who have spoken to us over the last few days is how much mam did for others. We heard many stories of her self-less-ness and unspoken support to people.
She was in various community organisations including Mental Health Association, Tiger Club. Active Retirement, Bridge club, the Agricultural Show, Community Games.
The number of people who have expressed their respects in the last few days is testimony to her support of others.
T is for Tim & Travel
Mam met Tim Ruane, our dad, during the Ballinasloe Fair Week in the Emerald Ballroom which also coincided with his birthday. They got married on the 24 June 1975.
They worked hard and invested in us their children. We wanted for nothing.
As we grew up, they took the opportunity to finally and deservedly treat themselves and did some travel abroad.
Unfortunately, mam lost the love of her life, Tim in April 2004. Like now, dad left suddenly and unexpectedly. It was a tough time for mam but she supported us through this.
A comforting thought is that the two of them are finally back together.

Introduction
Hello I’m Joseph and I wish to say few words on behalf of my brothers and sisters – David, Aoife, Paul and Mary.
If Chrissie could stop us now, saying anything, she would; but we wish to acknowledge, this “great lady”, as many people have called her in the last few days.
Chrissie was our mother and to us she was the best mother in the world!
When thinking of what to say, it is the word M-O-T-H-E-R that will guide me.
M is for Mother.
She is mother to 5 of us. At one stage, 4 of us were under 5 years of age, and then 5 years later we’d the addition of Mary.
She is grandmother to 7 and she adored them all.
All she had, she gave us.
We wanted for nothing and it is a life full of support and love.

Gifts at the Start of the Requiem Mass for Chrissie Ruane (Part 2/2)
Introduction
Chrissies’ four eldest grandchildren have come to offer a number of gifts in celebration of a small part of Chrissie’s life. (Part 2/2)
Katelyn
Katelyn is holding a photo of Chrissie as a young woman dressed in her nursing uniform and in her arms Chrissie is tenderly holding a newborn baby.
She was an outstanding nurse who cared for everyone from the youngest newborn babies to the old. She had great medical knowledge, but much more than that, which made her a truly outstanding person, was the way she cared so deeply about everyone she looked after, and would always go above and beyond what would ever have been expected. She was a genuine, caring person that had a deep warmth and love in her heart.
Roisin
Finally, Roisin holds a photo of the family and grandchildren. Chrissie was a family woman and got huge joy and a sense of pride from each and everyone of them. She loved to hear stories about the grandchildren and see photo updates. She got such a kick out of talking with them and did everything she could to spoil and treat them. She is a part of them and her love and memory will always live on in them.
A very special and true lady. May she rest in peace.

Gifts at the Start of the Requiem Mass for Chrissie Ruane (Part 1/2)
Introduction
Chrissies’ four eldest grandchildren have come to offer a number of gifts in celebration of a small part of Chrissie’s life.
Tim
Tim holds a rolling pin and a plate.
It is very likely that this same plate has been in many of your houses. Very seldom would you arrive in Chrissie’s house that there wasn’t the warm smell of fresh baking. She was an excellent cook and was famous for her award winning tarts, brown breads and pavalovas. It’s fair to say she had a special touch. Her grandchildren adored her treats and christened her dinners as a “granny dinner”. She made everything with love and gave to people with love.
Ava
Ava is holding a bag of bird seed and a red onion that was grown in Chrissie’s polytunnel this year.
Chrissie loved the simple things in life and nature gave her a huge amount of hope and joy. She loved small birds, flowers and walks in the woods. In Chrissie’s front garden right beside her bird table, a few daffodils have already popped through the ground symbolising hope and brighter days to come.
