CHRISTINE O'DONNELL

I am so deeply saddened to hear that Christine has passed. It’s been about 20 years since we parted ways, but I always had it in my mind that we would meet again. I regret not contacting her all of this time. Reading all of the condolences, I can see that she was well loved by all.

My friendship with Chris happened in that golden time in life when we were in our late teens, hanging around outside the temple bar music centre in our giant nope jeans with our long hair. Christine was so striking with her wild red hair and her big happy smile. We were both obsessed with guitars. We busked for pocket change, singing ‘Where is my mind?’ and ‘Ziggy Stardust’ in temple bar square, usually with a big gang of friends. We went to the Rocky Horror show almost weekly and every party that would have us!

She had such a talent for music, it’s hard to even attempt to explain it. When you heard her play, it’d make your skin tingle. Her lyrics and melodies were unexpected, haunting, beautiful and timeless. I always tried to capture them (whenever she would let me!). We wrote together, played together and recorded together.

It has been my privilege gathering those recordings together these past few weeks so that I can share them with her family. I hope that they bring you all as much joy as they have brought to me as I relive those happy days that I spent with Christine, gone too soon. Sending you all of my love ❤️ and Chris, I see your big happy smile never changed - I’ll miss you forever.

Deepest condolences, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. My thoughts are with family and friends at this difficult time.

I haven't been able to find the words to describe how much Christine meant to me. For now I will just cherish every memory I have of our time together.

From forgetting to go to school together and spending the day, instead, drinking coffee and discussing life, right up to our adult life and our ridiculously bad ability to stay in contact, but neither of us caring how much time had passed! I have always loved Christine and I always will. I am just so sorry we can't have one last chat but as always, I would have never wanted it to end.

To her family, I am deeply sorry. I can only imagine the pain you feel. I hope you take comfort in the knowledge that she is so loved and respected by so many friends. The world would be a much more beautiful place if there were more Christines in it.

Chris was a great friend to me for the last few years and I had the pleasure of working with her on research close to both our hearts. She was brave, intelligent, articulate, thoughtful, honest, and above all kind and loving. I'm so happy that I have had her in my life and will miss her terribly!

I attended Christine's funeral mass today, my heart goes out to all of her family and friends. Beautiful music, eulogy. Another special mass from Fr Pat with very fitting words. I hope Christine's gentle soul is finally at peace 🙏

So terribly saddened to hear about the passing of the beautiful soul, Christine. As my dad said, we were all blown away by her amazing talent when we first met her all those years ago when she played at our family gatherings and years later at gigs we did. She brought so much joy with her music, her sense of humour and huge warmth. Such an thoughtful, open person, always interesting and interested. A truly unique soul who shone bright in this world.

Christine was a most exceptional person who I am so proud to call a friend. I remember drama class in the Institute, primary and secondary school… your talents were so very obvious even way back then. And together at TCD how much I admired how you could be so brave, unique and talented.. a trailblazer taking advantage of all university life had to offer.

We lost touch for almost ten years, reconnecting after I read one of your incredible articles. Rereading our old messages and exchanges over the past seven years has had me both in tears and howling with laughter. How lucky was I to have had the privilege of your friendship. I will try to be grateful, and to remember your intelligence, musical talents, generosity to a fault, devastating wit, extraordinary capacity for humour, kindness and humanity. But mostly I will miss our chats, I will miss my friend. Rest well my dear.
