To the extended Kavanagh family, my sincerest condolences to you all.

I only ever met Chris a handful of times through my Dad, Tommy Kelly and cousin, Peter within Irish Rail. He was always a warm and kind person whenever I met him and his involvement in my first ever trip to Old Trafford to see Man United lose 0-1 to Liverpool in 2004 will live long in the memory.

Here's to you, Chris. RIP.

Dear Barbara & Alex

There is a void that can’t be filled and I can't begin to imagine your loss. Words won't make you feel any better but please take comfort in the fact that reading through all these messages it is evident that Chris was a hugely popular person within the community as well. One stated that he was a larger than life character and this could not have summed him up better; he had a cheeky grin, a back catalogue of stories that could entertain everyone for hours and such a great sense of humour!
I have so many fond memories as a child of Chris & the Kavanagh family whether that was in Manchester or Bray. Chris, never one to conform as a youngster, incurred the wrath of his mum when he got an amateur tattoo of a cross on his arm drawn with Indian ink; I remember Mary’s reaction very well and how she tried to scrub it off, the pair of them berating each other! Another time we were in Bray, he and I were walking into town through the back streets and he, knowing I was studying French at school, told me the area was infiltrated with IRA and they would hear my English accent so he had me talking to him in French all the way into town, I realised it was a wind up when he doubled up laughing when we got into town.
He had a very warm heart for his friends and family, would do anything for anyone and will be missed by all those who knew him. I'm devastated I couldn’t get there at such short notice but by all accounts there was a turn out that did him proud.

So sorry to hear this news. A great man and a true gent. I have great memories of our conversations every Saturday mornings when he delivered our milk, we had the country and town sorted. Condolences to Barbra and Alex and all family and friends at this sad time.

Great memories of our Manchester days he was the only man i know who could get 6 lads to Manchester in a Fiat Punto, every time we stopped for a coffee it broke down and we had to push start it. Chris loved his coffee he would be making it and laughing at a story at the same time he would of had more coffee spilt on the kitchen counter top than in the cup we spent more time cleaning kitchen counters than we did the cups. Chris was our milkman. He arrived very early in the morning but I bumped into him several times and he always had a kind word or a funny line.

He once saved me from accidentally ordering 12.5 liters of milk and went to the effort of writing a letter, explaining why he wasn’t going to leave an industrial-sized container of milk on our porch.

He made sure to note that we could add it to Saturday’s delivery if we were truly dead set on it.

He left a big impression even through our chance encounters.
