Sad to hear of my namesake and uncle, Christie's passing. I have fond memories of my visit with him and his family in Farnanes in the late 1970s. He was very generous and gracious to us. My cousins, Kathleen, Eileen, Pat, and Margo were young at that time and I remember teaching them to play baseball and digging potatoes for dinner.
I also recall many stories my father told me about Christie and him growing up in Ireland. He and Uncle Christy were very close, and he and his family were the first relatives I met on my trip to Ireland. Christy was fascinated by stories about America.
Uncle Christy was a hard working, humble man and I cherish my memories of the time spent with him and his family. I regret that I never returned for a visit.
Rest in peace, Uncle Christy and enjoy sharing stories with my father over tea and soda bread.
"Of all the comrades that ere I had, they're sorry for my going away,
And of all the sweethearts that ere I had , they wish me one more day to stay,
But since it falls unto my lot that I should rise while you should not,
I will gently rise and I'll softly call, "Goodnight and joy be with you all!"

Certainly the Lord works in mysterious ways!
It has been ten years since my wife Debbie and I have visited Ireland, but not by choice. Since 2005, we have intended to make the trip, and visiting my Uncle Christy has always been a top priority. We were finally able to make the trip this year and had originally intended to visit the family in West Cork late in our trip. Circumstances dictated that we pay Christy a visit early in our trip, which we did. Less than a week later, he has passed on. I feel so fortunate, particularly since his brother (my father) passed away less than three years ago. I'm sure the two of them are having a cup of tea together now!
May the two of them rest in peace!

Sorry for your loss. May the Lord Bless you and Keep you.
I send heartfelt condolences to my late uncle's family and friends in Ireland. May God rest his soul. He lived a long life surrounded by a loving, attentive family. God has now called him home where he will once again be in the company of so many who've gone ahead before. The thought that he will be chatting with his brother - and my own late father Florence P. Sullivan (as well as their parents and siblings) warms my heart. Praise God!
