Christy Nolan (Big Tom)

It was with sadness that I heard of the passing of Christy Nolan in Carlow. Christy was a loyal member of what we call the "Big Tom Family" ....all of us brought together in every part of the island of Ireland by the gentle giant from Oram, Castleblayney, Big Tom McBride. Through Big Tom and the band we made some of the most enduring friendships of our lives. Christy loved Big Tom and The Mainliners/Travellers and, indeed, often stayed in the McBride family home. Christy also loved Big Tom as a person and a friend and it was no wonder that he himself was fondly known around his home area as "Big Tom". Over the years I had a good few phone calls from Christy ....and it was always about Big Tom. Christy's fondness and friendship with Big Tom was reflective of the same bond we all enjoyed with the King of Country Music here in Ireland. They were the best of times and it was a privilege to be part of them. Condolences to the Nolan family on the passing of Christy..... "Going out the same way he came in".

Sad to hear of the passing of Christy. A true ledgend and character of our Village. Up and down on his scooter day or night. Loved by all and always up for the craic and a sing a long on Tuesday nights at All Blacks LBFC draw in The Shop, Big Tom stories were plentifyful. Christy Nolan came into our lives in 2007 when I parked outside his house ... he arrived out and I asked was it OK to park there... he said you can park anywhere Pet, he then became one of the bestest friends we could ever have. Christy will be missed forever in our house. One special man. The Pets often had words... Will be missed so much. X
